I have the same problem. Basically I can't install anything from PlayOnMac. I usually hit a crash:

0034:err:module:import_dll Loading library wininet.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\windows\\system32\\msi.dll") failed (error c000007a).

0034:err:module:import_dll Library msi.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\windows\\system32\\msiexec.exe") not found

0034:err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Importing dlls for L"C:\\windows\\system32\\msiexec.exe" failed, status c0000135

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xffffffffffffffff at address 0x7fff37cc2ce6 (thread 001a), starting debugger...

001a:err:seh:start_debugger Couldn't start debugger ("winedbg --auto 22 84") (1115)

Read the Wine Developers Guide on how to set up winedbg or another debugger

Quentin, Could the problem be that the version of Mac OS X Catalina is not the exact version that you tested with? Which version did you use? Maybe the release notes for Catalina will point toward what the problem could be.

I could'nt install FreeType, because I really doesn't understand how to "install" it. I installed XQuartz, restarted all after, but impossible to me to install any software in PlayOnMac.

I had same issue to install MetaTrader4 (Mac OS Catalina, latest version), but after installing FreeType via homebrew did the trick. Installation of Apps in PlayOnMac works now. Maybe it would be helpfull, if the installation of FreeType would be part of installation of PlayOnMac.

4.4.1 is being uploaded in few minutes and will hopefully solve the problem.

Feel free to send feedbacks

Everything seems to work for me now! :) Thanks a lot for your work!

I am downloading a game on Steam, and will update you if something goes wrong.

Hello :)

In the end, it does not seem to work. Steam launches, the game downloads, but when I try to launch the game, it does not appear.

It seems like it launches since Steam says that I played for some minutes, but it does not appear in my screen.

In the debugging report, I can find that:

Please be aware, the 4.4.1 installation now produces the Apple Warning message: "PlayOnMac.app" can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

4.1.1 works!! Thank you Quentin!!

For those using Steam via POM; the large window view won't show your library or anything else for some reason. Change your view to "Small Mode" and your games will appear!

I tried the small mode thing, but still when I launch nothing appears. I just hear my processor working and working but it does not appear even if Steam says it is launched.

A similar bug report comes everytime:

Quentin, thank you for 4.4.1! yes

Does it work under Catalina only or under Mojave too?

How is better (if I have Mojave & 4.3.4 now) - to upgrade it to 4.4.1 and upgrade OS after or vise versa?

Hello everybody,

4.4.1. works well with my apps under Mojave

How stable is it under Catalina? Any opinions?

I've decided that using any current Wine 'solution' on MacOS Catalina is simply not reliable; and will now wait and see what happens when Codeweavers Crossover 20 becomes a reality. Until/Unless WineHQ changes the statement that "Wine won't work on macOS Catalina 10.15" see -https://wiki.winehq.org/MacOS all 'solutions' are obvious kludges. Meanwhile, native Wine in a Linux Virtual Machine is working well; and some apps that I use are actually more responsive than a native installation in a Windows Virtual Machine, but neither of these options provide a gaming solution for those who have that priority.

My Steam launches in "Small Mode" but none of my games appear. When switching to "Big Mode", Steam crashes and the following error message occurs:

Fatal Error

DWrite.dll missing, check your Windows/DirectX installatin.

Hello everybody!

Are there any news regarding positive/negative experience with using 4.4.1. and 64-bit apps under Catalina?

I'm still working with my 64 apps under Mojave and they are working well but I would like finally to upgrade the OS..

And what about XQuartz X11 - should or should not it be installed ? (I didn't do it yet)...

+ one more question regarding future MacOS - BigSur (which is already available on Apple site as a 3rd beta) and further - is 4.4.1. expected to work under them?

Any idea regarding 4.4.1 with MacOS11 Big Sur?

Hello!

Did anybody test 4.4.1 under 3rd beta MacOS 11-BigSur (all the new Macs from fall 2020 will work under this OS)?

We are confident that it will work the same on macOS 11 than on Catalina (i.e. not 32bits support, wine32on64 and its limitations only) if it is running on an intel based mac.
