Module 18 just dropped on Jan. 21st.  along with a few bugs.  My husband and I tested it on Wine 4.0 (no POL) and it plays perfectly without need of any tweaks or customization.  However we are experiencing a bug on our Linux machines that fails to show up on the Windows 10 machine.   When I log into Neverwinter the first character I choose will play as normal.  The moment I swap characters, I lose all ability to chat, send mail, and I appear to be offline to my friends.  Although they can still party up with me, I cannot use the chat system, until I log out and sign back into the system.

We are running several PCs with more than one distrobution of Linux.  The current version being used on most is 4.0 and I know 5.0 is available.  I plan to wait until my husband returns for the weekend, before making any decision to upgrade the Wine.  Even then, upgrading from 4.0 to 5.0 may have adverse effects on this application.

Since the system was flawlessly working prior to mod 18, is this a Wine issue or their server software issue? They made no statements about changes made to the system requirements or OS. I have an open thread on the forums taking to a game developer. If or when I get an anwer from the developers, I will let you know what they say.

Thank you.

Wow Neverwinter Online... its been a few years since I've played it with my Daughter.

Have you tried running it with DXVK yet? I remember posts about it going DirectX 10 only and removing DirectX 9 support.

Not sure about the problems you are having... does Neverwinter require any dot NET Framework or Visual C packages?

Before module 18 upgrade, it has worked 100% without any winetricks, etc. They removed support for DX 9 years ago and last year they remove 32 bit support.  It isn't about the audio or graphics,  I don't think I want to mess with Vukan on my system and break something that is working as intended.  I will stick with my OpenGL, thank you.

Does Direct X or Vulkan have anything to do with networking?  I think my husband tried all the tweaks on his PC that he runs tests with and it still drops the chat server between characters.  As a final note, Cryptic Studios had several Windows users who could not even log back into the game the first week of this new module.

My husband's opinion is, when they changed the client, someone used a "Windows network core command", and it is not handshaking with Linux Samba.  He blames the client 100% for this and said, I should just use the workaround until they get it fixed on their end.

Does Direct X or Vulkan have anything to do with networking?:  No. Usually it's wininet and winhttp.

I'm not experience with this game, but I think that your husband is right.

Thanks Dadu042, I will wait for them to get their act together.  As for the game history, the company is well known for releasing heavly bugged modules.  This one just happens to only effect Linux and not the Windows users.  I expect no real help from the developers as they tend to repair the major bugs, gloss over the minor bugs, and move on to building the next module.  I don't hold them 100% at fault. Cryptic Studios is an US company, that originally belonged to Atari, and got sold to the Chinese company Perfect World Entertainment.
