Assassins Creed 2 Steam Version woes

Problems with the Steam Platform on Wine 4.3.4

I need some guidance on this one. Please forgive any newbie mistakes, I am still new to Linux and any help is very much appreciated at this stage :)

 

I am running POL4.3.4 on Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial). I have used the install script from gnu_raziel in the Supported Software section but...

 

First run it can't find the Steam Directory. No problem I can sort that...

 

I started again and ran the script up to the point where it is asking me to click options for dvd/steam/local and stopped, leaving the script open but not clicking next.

 

Now I used the POL Control Panel option and manually installed the Steam client onto the Assassins Creed 2 Virtual Drive using add/remove programs for that drive. Success. Steam directory is now showing up in the virtual drive.

 

I also Installed crypt32 via the "Configure Wine" tab. I am led to believe that Assassins Creed 2 needs this library, please correct me if I am wrong here.

 

NOW I continue with the install script, which runs beautifully up to the point where a message says to let Steam install the game but not to click play. So I click the "next" button and... nothing. Box closes and Steam doesn't start.

 

No problem I will just click the Assassins Creed 2 Icon to get things going... oh dear... Assassins Creed 2 has crashed. Check the log... here are the end few lines showing the error:

I do not understand what this is telling me and I now need some guidance and wisdom from a very kind person to please help me fix this. Thanks in advance ;)

Well that was interesting. For some reason my install is running through the new part of the script that installs Steam however it is still not installing Steam to C drive and there is still no Steam directory. It expectedly stops with an error at the part that calls for Steam to execute due to it not finding a Steam directory on the C Drive. I am wondering if this is a local problem with my distro or my POL install as I can see no reason for this script  not to work this time.

I think that now the main issue is that our Stream script seems break (see comments inside)... frown

Ah, that could be a problem.

 

Just for your info I did repeat what I did last time and manually installed steam using the add/remove option in the virtual drive but I did not run it when finished, then I continued with your new script after it had installed. This worked up to exactly the same point that you have linked to about SteamWebHelper crashing. It also complained about the uri (filename path) being too long.
