Hello!
I experience font smoothing inconsintency inside the game Civilization IV BTS. It depends on how I run it: with System vs non-System wine version in PlayOnLinux or directly via wine from terminal. When I set the System version of wine for the game in PlayOnLinux configuration, the fonts are smooth/anti-aliased. When I set any other wine version (no matter if it is the same, earlier or later than System version) for the game, the fonts are crisp/thin/not-anti-aliased. When I run the app from terminal with the same non-System wine version, the fonts are smooth/anti-aliased:
cd ~/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/4.6
WINEPREFIX=~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Civ4_x64 WINESERVER=./bin/wineserver WINELOADER=./bin/wine WINEDLLPATH=./lib/wine ./bin/wine C:\\Civ4\\Beyond\ the\ Sword\\Civ4BeyondSword.exe
The results are the same with 32-bit and 64-bit wine prefix, various non-system wine versions. Installing or not various font, font smoothing or font registering packages via PlayOnLinux or winetricks also doesn't make a difference. I have compared the wine debug output when running the game in different ways, but haven't noticed any difference that could be related to the font inconsistency.
System information: Manjaro 64-bit with latest updates, PlayOnLinux 4.3.4.
I'd like to know why this font smoothing difference exists and how to enable anti-aliasing for non-System wine versions when running applications from PlayOnLinux.
If these questions are difficult to answer, then please help me to figure out how exactly does PlayOnLinux run the apps. This could help me find the relevant difference compared to running wine from terminal.
Thank you,
Igor
