If I Install Steam via the POL menu it installs the the 32bit version.  I can then install Skyrim via steam and it works.

However I wish to play with mods some of which require 64bit, although so far this just seems to be for unzipping the mods.

If I create a new POL drive for 64 bit and do a custom install using the downloaded steam installer, steam appears to work, If I then install skyrim. it appears to finish but uppon launching skyrim(after the launcher window) i get a small black window that never does anything.

 

What additional steps does the packaged steam install do that i need to on a manual install?

What additioanal information do you need from me to solve this issue.
