I'm trying to play Syberia (pt. 1) using the version from Good Old Games. When I run it through POL, I can hear the starting music but I only see a black screen. Any suggestions how to proceed?

try running it in a virtual desktop (see configuration > wine > wine configuration)

Thanks. I tried that but no change in results. However, by running it in a virtual desktop I was able to notice that the POL crash warning happens almost immediately when the game starts up. In other words, even though music is playing, POL is already aware of the crash. (Originally I thought that warning was happening because I was force-closing the game.)

The crash popup detect error with wine but sometimes, the program (and wine) can run quite normally. The current system is prompt to false detection.

Did you have any other error messages with wine ? Or is the sound good for a while before crashing ?

Ok, I just found the time to get back to this error. :) In answer to the last questions:

• No, there were no other error messages as far as I can tell.
• The crash popup happens immediately but the sound is fine even after the popup. I don't think anything other than the graphics is crashing (I can hear the intro music and then the transition to the main menu, and then the music just keeps playing).
   

It's a pure graphical problem then. Did you install requested directx in the winprefix (using POL configuration menu) ?
