Using MX Linux, when I click Open a Shell under Configure > (drive) > Miscellaneous > Open a shell, the terminal window that appears says "This script must be executed in PlayOnLinux." Pressing enter closes it. Why can't I use the shell?

Are you using PlayOnLinux 4.2.12?

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 & Playonlinux 4.3.4 and I get the same error when opening a shell. Any ideas how to get it working?

Hmm, yeah that shouldn't happen.

I'm on Mint 19.3 64-bit, but even in previous versions of PlayOnLinux I never had an issue like that.

Make sure the virtual drive in the left column is selected.

Click the Miscellaneous Tab

Click Open Shell

A small black screen should open where you can type Linux commands.

What exactly are you trying to do in the shell?

I found the answer by chance while searching for answers to other problems:

Run this command in the terminal:

sudo update-alternatives --config x-terminal-emulator

This will open up a list of terminals you have installed and let you pick one to be the default one, I used XTerm, which worked for me.

Now to try and mess up my virtual drive 8)

Oh, now I know what xterm is for... ha ha

Every time I've installed PlayOnLinux the first time, it pops-up and requires xterm to be installed.

So I use my package manager and install it.

Thanks
