After the last update, I can't get Steam to work on my computer. The program immediately crashes at launch. Here is the log below:

Same problem for me! I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything but Steam just crashes. Can't open it at all.

Guys, this is a WINE bug -> https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43315

It has been confirmed and a fix seems to exist.

Reminder : wine is the program that 'translate' windows command into linux one, upon which POL is built (to help you manage apps, and easy workarounds that can be found).

This fix doesn't seem to work on Mac. It might be because I'm not awfully techy, but also could be because this fix appears to require that you don't have a crashing version of Steam before doing it?

Can anyone tell me what is going on with this? I'm not technologically proficient.

After updating to wine 2.12 (staging), I was able to login to steam. 

1. Follow the instruction to install the latest wine-staging

https://wine-staging.com/installation.html

2. Check on terminal to make sure it say 2.12 staging

wine --version

3. Switch the wine version in your playonlinux to use the "system" (which is now 2.12 staging if done correctly). E

After updating the wine 2.12 (staging), I still can't get Steam to run properly. I have the same problem as before. 

 

When I type "wine --version" in terminal, it says " wine-1.7.0" despite me running the 2.12 (staging) installer twice already. Not sure what I should do at this point, any guidance would be appreciated.

Yeah, I downloaded the new version of wine staging 2.12 from their website, went to playonmac and changed it to system, and steam still doesn't run. I don't know if I am missing something else or why its not working.

I'm using linux mint. So the installation method is different in macOS. Here some guidance from the site. Sorry if i can't be more helpful. 

1. Download staging from this link

Note: under manage wine, you won't find 2.12 staging. The option "system" equals whatever wine version you have installed outside of playonmac. So check using wine --version in a terminal to find out which version your system have.

If all else fail, I guess we just have to wait for playonmac or playonlinux update their wine libraries to newer version. 

 

 

I wish I knew how long they took to update their libraries, since steam is still not working for me :c I was also, told that this was a fix for it:

However, I'm not tech savvy so I'm not sure how to use that, to make steam run properly on playonmac.

Thank you... I am really close I think, but need a little help.  I've accomplished steps 1 and 2 successfully with the terminal saying this, " Welcome to wine-2.12 (Staging)."  as well as 

fotoguzzi$ wine --version

wine-2.12 (Staging)

 

after running the --version command.

 

Now I go to PlayOnMac, click on configure on Steam and change Wine Version to "System"

Click Run Steam and still get this message 

Error in main

Steam crashed.

Select its shortcut and click on "Debug" in the side panel to get more details.

 

What am I doing wrong?  Can you or anyone please help??  Thanks in advance, I appracite your time.
