I'm using the guidance at http://www.gamersonlinux.com/forum/threads/riven-sequel-to-myst-guide.1287/ to install my original 4 CD version of Riven onto my Linux system (Mint 18 Cinnamon, 64 bit, Kernel 4.4.0-45).

The guidance at this referenced URL fails to take into account that folders which have apparently the same name under Windows have different names under Linux - where names are case-sensitive. For example there are folders named data ,Data, setup, Setup. CD1 uses single, lower case naming for every file on the CD. CDs 2, 3 and 4 used mixed case naming for the 'same' folders/files with leading capitalisation and sometimes capitals within the filename (e.g RivenApp.ico).

The installation procedure requires the contents of all 4 CDs to be copied to  a user-created folder on the desktop - which then contains folders named data and Data, setup and Setup, whereas the install guidance expects there to be only one folder for each similar name. Installation fails.

If I pick the lower case only file name and ignore instances like RivenApp.ico, installation suceeds but the game crashes after a few steps, possibly because I have not installed it correctly.

What should I be doing ?

My educated guess is to convert all folders and file names including extensions to lowercase before combining them all as that guide instructs.
