I already try to use other wine version like 1.6, 1.3 ... and the problem is the same.

The fixme warnings can be solved with a codec installation or anything or the game cant run? .

The strange is that game at two months past works very well in Playonlinux and now stops to work .

Try using Wine 1.8-staging and installing d3dx9

Are you using Steam?

Those older versions of Wine do not support the Steam Overlay and will crash if you click on the game or touch the keyboard.
Try disabling the Overlay or using newer versions of Wine

That is strange, I've never had problems installing and logging into Steam.  How did you install Steam?

I think that I install like this →

sudo apt-get install steam

If I remember well, because I already install steam much time ago.

That works for the Linux Steam but you can't play Windows-only games.
You will need to download Windows Steam and install it with PlayOnLinux.

Actually, if you do a manual installation you can select Steam from the "Install Components" list

Sorry for late answer,

In Playonlinux I think that I install Steam with the script of Playonlinux .

I can play the game on my notebook without any problem, on this desktop no , I think maybe the problem is with my Nvidia and the driver of her on the desktop, also I can play other games on playolinux so the problem maybe can be  my Nvidia.

Thanks for your help.

What video card/chip does your desktop use? Also make sure to install 32-bit libraries because most games are only 32-bit compatible.

My Nvidia is one FX5500 ,  NVIDIA Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5500].

She is very old, I think that the libraries tha you mentioned I already have because I have other games that work well on Playonlinux.

Thanks.

Ok, so you "can" run games on the FX5500 right?

That is definitely an old card and the drivers are no longer supported by Nvidia.  Open source drivers might work, but performance is definitely going to suffer.

Sounds like your notebook will be your gaming machine for now.  Unfortunately if you want to upgrade your desktop, you will have to upgrade the motherboard, which means a new CPU, Memory and video card.  Chances are if you upgrade the video card, you might need a better power supply as well.  So this would be a whole system upgrade.  I've estimated one for under $500 if you have your own case, mouse/keyboard and monitor.

Yes, my hardware is very very old, my pc hav 13 years is a Pentium IV  at 3GHZ, with an asrock P4V88 motherboard and with a 2.5 memory RAM .

Is a Dinossaur! But is an incredible machine with GNU/Linux.

Is my first PC that I buy, and is like an diammond for me .

I have other card that I replace wit this Nvidia, and works well and when I use this game with the card he works well, but I choose buy other card to have a replace in case of any problem with other card , the problem is that at this momment I use the Nvidia and if I change to the other (ati 9250 ) I'll need to redefine the graphic setup of my distro and I prefer dont do this.

The costs of a new pc, is around 1000 (euro) here , I 'm live in Portugal and a medium PC have this cost if you planning to play much games , is the basic pc there are better pcs around 1500 and up (euros).

Thanks for your extremely support!

Greetings.

I would not recommend using the ATI card.  IF it works... the opensource drivers might not run so great.  Either way it was a different world of gaming with Linux 13 years ago.

I forget the Euros to Dollars conversion, but that is still expensive for a computer.  Where do you purchase the hardware?

In the case of my old ATI I already test this same game with this same version distro and with Playonlinux to use the game and works, I buy and put this graphic card when I already have this version of distro and I change the card whit it version already instaled, and in the case of ATI dont exists any driver supported by the manufacturer so I use the drivers provided by the community , free drivers.

I buy my pcs here in Portugal and you have  three type of dsktops or pcs lines on market - the basic ( with old hardware like dual cores etc, to do basic tasks like write a document this type of desktops have a price around 300 - 700 euros, then you have a medium desktops ( already prepared to gaming ) the prices here are around 800 to 1.500 euros, and then start the advanced lines to gaming fans or to the multimedia use, and this type of desktops have prices around 1700- to 4000 euros, and more.

You can easily view prices of pcs on a retail vendors like this www.worten.pt .

To your last question "where I purchase the hardware" - I think your question is about my nvidia, in fact I buy this on a little store of computers , and the card is used (second hand)  the vendor sell it for me, she came from a other computer that is marked to recicled cicle!

Wow, I'm surprised SpeedBall ran at all.

Sound like its really hard to find hardware in Portugal, unless you have a lot of money.

Was your Speedball test on someone else's computer?

I think that Imentioned above that I playing the game in past in this same pc without problems.

The game usually works well on my pcs.

If I test the game in pcs of other people the answer is no , only in my pcs.
