Hi.... I would love to play Gnomoria with the native Linux version, but it crashes constantly.  Even with autosave set to every day, I often can't make it through a whole day withit a crash.  So I want to play the Windows version with Playonlinux.  I have Steam installed in Playonlinux.  The game installed without a problem.  But when I try to start it, it just says "doing first time setup...", then goes back to Steam.  It seems to have instealled a few prerequistes the very first time, but now it just gives that message and quits.  Any idea how to install it?

Also, does anyone know where the saved game files are located for the Linux version, and if they are Windows compatible>  I'd like to copy them over.  Thanks.

Honestly it might be better to get help with the native version.  If it won't run in PlayOnLinux/Wine they won't support it.

If Steam is trying to install some libraries, you can find out by looking in the game folder:

//home/username/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/gnomoria/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Gnomoria

Look for a file with .vdf and open it with Text Editor.  It will show you what installs at first launch.  If its something like:

  • visual C++
  • direct X
  • dotnet

You can install those with the Components Installer in PlayOnLinux Configure

That worked!  It needed .NET and XNA.  I installed XNA with the Playonlinux configuration thing just like you said.  It installed .NET first (probably a dependency).  It did give some small error, but in any case it worked and I am running Gnopmoria for Windows under Steam/PlayonLinux.  THANK YOU for such a helpful and detailed answer.  I never would have figured that out.  <deep bow of respect>

No problem at all.  Glad its working now!  Enjoy!  Maybe they will eventually update the Linux version so it doesn't crash on your system.

Its always nice to have an alternative solution with PlayOnLinux.

Don't forget to mark this post as "solved"
