Where are you downloading SimCity 4 from?
Are you able to install it in PlayOnLinux?

I didn't even realilze Sim City 4 was available...

Oh, I see it now.  After you click install, it asks for a Sim City 4 Deluxe setup file or Steam.
Which one are you using?

Its also using an older Wine 1.7.34.  The new Stable Wine is 1.8

If you have Sim City 4 Deluxe installer, browse to it on this step... If you are using Steam then select Steam.
Follow the instructions for installing Steam.  Once you get logged into Steam, then select Sim City 4 Deluxe and install it.

Ok, so either the script installs Steam for you or the Setup installs Steam for you.  If you have to, try doing a manual installation and install Steam yourself first, then you won't have to use the Setup file and just download the game.

If you are using a DVD ROM to speed up the installation process, then it might be more difficult.  Let me know if you need help doing a manual installation.  It is beneficial for testing games and clients like Steam.  This way you can notify PlayOnLinux developers about the script and what do update.

PlayOnLinux used Steam to download the game the first time.
There is a way to copy the game files, but lets see if its there.

Go To:  /home/username/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/simcity4/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Sim City 4

The path should be similar to that if it used Steam..

Now, when you install Steam manually you can name the virtual drive yourself, select Wine 1.8 and install Steam yourself.  Then go to the same "SteamApps/Common" folder and drag-n-drop the game to it.

Does that make sense?
I can send you all the steps in a manual installation.

Don't forget, there is a chance Sim City 4 may not run on your hardware as well.  What are your computer specs?
