I just installed Skyrim through steam in POL. Everything went fine, got the game up and running in wine.

I exited the game and it froze, so after a couple minutes waiting, I killed it. Now when I try to run it, it crashes and I get this in the debug.

[01/09/16 21:20:50] - Running wine-1.7.49-staging Steam.exe -no-dwrite (Working directory : /home/zophan/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/skyrim/drive_c/Program Files/Steam)
fixme:ver:GetCurrentPackageId (0x33e480 (nil)): stub
X Error of failed request:  BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request:  1 (X_CreateWindow)
Resource id in failed request:  0x480000a
Serial number of failed request:  78
Current serial number in output stream:  82

Can someone help me?

Thank you.

I wonder if the Wineserver and other exe's are still running in the background?

Try this:

  • go to PlayOnLinux Configure
  • Select Skyrim on the left
  • Click Wine Tab
  • Click Kill Processes

That should kill anything else lingering from PlayOnLinux and Wine.
If not, try restarting as well.  Also if you use Wine 1.8-staging you probably won't need the -no-dwrite command any longer
