Path of Exile restarting my system consistently

Hi guys!

Your software is awesome and was able to flawlessly handle all the Path of Exile installation and the game runs pretty well (despite some performance hicups).

Unfortunately it seems that my whole system is restarting consistently when I'm going thru map transitions: I click to transition to another area the loading screen comes and then the system is shutdown for no clear reason.

I've already tryed disabling the GLSL, didn't change a thing.

Maybe this is a bug in my current NVIDIA driver (v. 352.63) ?

I'll give my full specs and the playonlinux's Logs maybe you guys are able to see something I'm not seeing.

Cheers!

That could also be a hardware issue, like a weak power supply or motherboard...

Power supplies, specially, can get weaker with time

I am not familiar with Manjaro (Based on Arch) but the only major problem I experienced with Path of Exile was slow frame rates when attacking enemies.
The fix I always use is by using 1.7.19-WGL_WINE_surface2
I know its an older version of Wine, but it runs perfectly without any crashing at all.
In fact, I was playing cooperative with my wife using Windows 8 and she kept getting crashes, but in PlayOnLinux I never experienced crashes.

@booman

Thanks man I'll try this version of wine instead.

For the record I've been able to play the game, well sort of...

The game behaves VERY wierd:

1) It ALWAYS restarts my PC whenever in the character selection screen instead of doubleclicking the charater (which login successfuly) I chose the character and then press the button "Play". It always restarts my system didn't failed me a single time, lol.

2) The game always restarts on area transitions. It's not 100% consistent, since I'm able to progress thru the game, BUT 95% of the crashes occurr in area transition (the screen goes to the loading screen and then after a while loading it restarts)

I never experienced those symptoms before, I have a GeForce 550 Ti and Nvidia 352 drivers.  Did you install Path of Exile into a 32 bit virtual drive?

Are you using the virtual desktop as well?

Nothing changed.

I tried version you told me 1.7.19 (WGL_WINE_surface2) and (PathofExile) none worked.

Both had the exact same issue as the version I was using before.

About your your questions:

1) Yes I used the default instalation which uses 32bit virtual drive.

2) I'm not sure what "virtual desktop" means. Are you refering to the wineconfig option to emulate a virtual desktop? If yes, I'm not using this feature.

I'm running out of options here...
You may have to consult with a Manjaro forum because Mint doesn't have symptoms like that with Path of Exile. I've tried it on two different computers and it runs beautifully.

Might as well try the virtual desktop...
Yes its part of Wine Configuration.  Make sure to set the screen size to match your Linux Desktop size

Interesting, I did some research on my distro foruns and I found a thing that FOR NOW seems to have fixed my issues. A definitive conclusion will need further testing.

What seems to have fixed my problem is the installation of "usp10" on PathofExile's profile.

Can you guys check if you also have this installed?

To do so you only have to "open shell" on PathofExile profile you're using and run "winetricks list-installed"

I haven't even heard of those at all.
I don't currently have Path of Exile installed, so I can't check right now

Also, PlayOnLinux doesn't support Winetricks, in fact, PlayOnLinux is a frontend just like Winetricks, so you won't need Winetricks at all to play games

Well winetricks is not needed, you can install usp10 thru playonlinux itself.

Do you have usp10 installed is the question.

booman Friday 18 December 2015 at 19:36

I don't think so, if that is a Package provided by PlayOnLinux, then "no"
I don't recognize usp10 at all... is it part of a dotnet or vcrun package?

I see it now, it IS a PlayOnLinux package...
I definitely do not have it installed because I've never used that Package for any game in the past.  I have tested over 100 games in PlayOnLinux and never needed it before.

Thanks, by next week I'll know if the installation actually fixed the issue for me.

For now It's looking really really promising since I was able to use plenty transition areas without crashing.
