How to use (network) scanners with POL?

Scanner installed and working on Linux

I just installed XnView in PlayOnLinux and want to use it to scan files using a Samsung MFC printer (Samsung SCX-4729), which is connected through the network (not USB!!!).

Both scanning and printing on that printer/scanner scanner is working properly in my host environment (LinuxMint 17.2). I can print from any program and I can scan using sane.

How can I access the scanner from within PlayOnLinux?

XnView has a menu item "Select TWAIN source", but when I click it, nothing happens. IT doesnt freeze or lock up either, any other menu item after that still works. It just does not open up the TWAIN dialog.

I guess in a "real" Windows, the TWAIN dialog that would come up at that point is provided by the system or some driver, rather than by XnView itself.

How can I access the scanner?

I tried installing Samsung's windows scan driver on the same virtual drive, but the installer crashed.

Thanks,

MSA

I do have libsane installed; not sure if the fact that it is missing the :386 suffix matters.

This is a 64bit machine; the virtual disk I have created is 64bit as well.

I googled and didnt find anything relevant; although some pacges were talking about a wine-twain package, that I can not find anywhere. But those posts were many years old, maybe that package has been discontinued or it moved into the main wine package...

From what I've read all you need is libsane, I have no way to test anything currently.

However I have very little experience with 64bit Wine, it's still somewhat experimental.
