Ok, so im trying to install oblivion on ubuntu 14.4 using POL. I have the cd rom, so that shouldnt be a problem. okay, so i open pol, and select install, then i select oblivion from the list of programs. it comes up with the install screen, saying that im using the script from "GNU_RAZIEL". i click next. comes up with vitural drive exist, so i erase. comes up with selct an install method, i choose "use DVD-ROMS". Scans hardware, then comes up with "insert game media if not already done." i click next. comes up with "where is mounted your CD-ROM?" i have the options of "oblivion" "other" and "refresh". if i chosee other, it says cannot find cdrom, so i chose "oblivion", and click next. IMMEDIATLY, it comes up with a pop up box, (that is wine) and says, "ERROR" "ACCESS DENIED". Why? im the root user, i dont understand?! anyways, i click the option of "ok" and it comes up with "playonlinux has encountered and error, and then a box that says "Error in POL_Wine Wine seems to have crashed If your program is running, just ignore this message" so i click next and it comes up with another "playonlinux has encounter an error" box and a box at the bottom that says "Error in POL_Shortcut Binary not found: OblivionLauncher.exe Have you installed the program to the default location?". i click next and it says "if you do not have the shivering isle add on you must update this game before using it". I click next, and it says "an error occured". i close the window. please someone help me, im so confusedddd! thank you so much people, and sorry if there is already a thread about this cause i have serched and cant find one relating to my issue.

It sounds like the script might have some bugs.
I tested Oblivion GOTY over a year ago and it installed on a really old version of Wine: 1.3.14
This is because of Securom DRM built into the installer. I wonder if newer versions of Wine can handle it?
I was able to play Oblivion with Wine 1.4.1 and 1.5.25 after it was installed. I just had to download those with the Wine Manager and switch to them later on.

Okay, so how do i do that? i tried reading a guide on how to do it manually using wine 1.3.14 and it worked up untill a point, then it just didnt. let me explain. this is the guide i used. http://www.gamersonlinux.com/forum/threads/elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion-guide.178/ okay so i did what the guide said up untill it says to "install libraries
- POL_Install_corefonts
- POL_Install_d3dx9
- POL_Install_d3dx9_36
- POL_Install_d3dx9_40
- POL_Install_d3dx9_43
- POL_Install_vc2005"
on my computer it didn't have the option for "POL_Install_vc2005", only "POL_Install_vcrun2005" so i went ahead and selected the "vcrun2005" and went along and did the rest of the guide untill it reached "Setup.exe" and where you should click next and then it should start the install. at this point it starts then stops and pops up with an error message, saying that "Error in POL_Wine Wine seems to have crashed, if the program is running, just ignore this message" so at this point I click next, and it comes up with "select a file to make a shortcut," and so if i chose browse, no mater what i chose it says "could not find binary for suchandsuch.file" so i click "i dont want to make a shortuct", and it closes, and there is no oblivion. Im, so concused, what am i doing wrong here? BTW, thanks for looking at this and trying to help me out.

Ah, that is my guide
Its really old and I need to re-test Oblivion again to see how newer versions of Wine handle the installer.
Can you play any other games in Linux?
I would start by making sure you have PlayOnLinux 4.2.8 installed
You may have to download it from the website here: Ubuntu
Just download to your desktop and double-click. The Ubuntu Software Installer should automatically update your existing PlayOnLinux.
vcrun2005 is perfectly fine. In fact you can install vcrun2008, vcrun2010 and vcrun2012 if you want.
I just realized you have the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 14.04 so ignore the rest...
It also appears that you might not have the 32-bit libraries installed in Ubuntu 14.04
These are necessary to play 90% of games in PlayOnLinux and Wine.
If you want to try installing them, try this:
Open Terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T
Type: sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
Press Enter
Enter password
May have to type "yes" or "y" and Enter
Type: sudo apt-get update
Press Enter
Type: sudo apt-get install libc6:i386 libncurses5:i386 libstdc++6:i386
Press Enter
"Y" again to download and install libraries
Close Terminal when its finished
Restart Ubuntu 14.04
There might be more libraries, but these should handle PlayOnLinux.
I don't use Ubuntu 14.04 so I can't verify this will work.

So did you have to use 1.3.14 at all?
Were you able to install the entire game on a single version of Wine?
