Downgrading playonmac to 4.2.7

Hello, I am very grateful to be using playonmac which enables me to emulate Steam on windows where I can download and play Age of Empires II HD. I've had the software for about a year, ever since 4.2.5. Recently, I've updated to 4.2.8, now Steam is very slow. I right click on my friends list and it takes anywhere from 3 to 5 seconds to respond, also sending private messages are the same way. I type my message, wait a few seconds, and there it is. This is very annoying when I am trying to join a game, and time is of the essence. And lastly, before I ask my question, I wanted to note that I've been receiving an error message that says the following:

Program Error

The program steamwebhelper.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for this inconvenience.

This can be caused by a problem in the program of a deficiency in Wine. You may want to check the Application Database for tips about running this application.

I had been using playonmac without any slowness issues or this error message until I updated the software to 4.2.8. I have had no issues until then. Which is why I would like to ask where I could find a lower version like 4.2.7 where my game ran perfectly fine?

By the way, did you reinstall above game after switching to 4.2.8?

If not, there will be no problem reinstalling 4.2.8 afterward either :) Given that

- PlayOnLinux/PlayOnMac is almost not involved in running programs, but mostly in installing them;

- The 4.2.8 changelog is quite short, only bugfixes.

On the other hand if you reinstalled the game, the only thing that could have some performance impact is the last point in the changelog, the POL_Wine_SetVideoDriver bugfix, that is used by the Age of Empires II HD install script.

Yeah, in general downgrading is not a solution because if you find a bug, it needs to be fixed for everyone.

In your particular case, I'm suspecting a Steam update rather than 4.2.8 (which introduces a very small change as pango said)

Thank you for the responses. Mr. Petch, I was not aware that it was necessary to reinstall the game after updating playonmac. I will try this and post back with my results.

I never asked you to reinstall the game, I asked if you did.

And since it appears you didn't reinstall the game, your problem must be a Steam update regression, it's very unlikely to be a PlayOnMac issue.

You're right, I've wiped everything clean and reinstalled Steam and the game, so far so good. Do you guys have a tip jar?
