Hey,

Eveyone, I'm new to this forum and I'm kind of new to ubuntu as well. I just like it. The only thing I don't like is gaming.

I've recently changed to ubuntu system and I'm trying t install diablo 3 on the system. I googled online and find this awsome toole playonlinux. I've followed the instruction to install the game successfully. However, when I try to run the game, the game window failed to initial and the system freezed completly. later, I tried to configure the game setting to run the game as window mode. I can see the startting window but it freeze as well.  I can't even change it to tty1 to kill the process.

I tried to debug it and the software suggest me to post it in forum to see if it is a solved issue. Due to the lack of knowledge of lunix system. I can't fix it by myself. I'll keep on searching the solution while waiting for some experienced users help me out

I don't know how to attach the debugging log file here. So I shared the link to my google driver. Its quite large file. about 42 MB.

Here is the link to the log file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-hei52h4NZ5QjI1Q2xpUTJWbzg/view?usp=sharing

About my system.

Can you share the log using pastebin or something that we don't have to download, please?

I was plan to do so. But I cant copy past it into a google doc. I was guessing it was way too large. 43 MB, I was surprised.

Can you run the program (not in debug mode), and post that log? Or run playonlinux from a terminal, run the game normally (not in debug), and copy/paste to pastebin from the terminal?

Yes, it works, this file is way much smaller. Its the content from the log file. I can't try it with terminal. Cuz every time I lunch the game. It will crash my system completely.

So here is the linkhttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1f_wUNx9R-0xV3BQQeXYVcKF1ERfNa-7MKPsg6x6-AeI/edit?usp=sharing

Your system should not completely freeze running Wine. That is really odd. You aren't running as sudo are you?

Also, make sure you graphics drivers are up to date. Make sure that you have the 32 bit graphics drivers installed, as well. I don't see anything in that log that would cause an issue, so I am not sure what is causing it.

I have AMD HD7770 and I've installed the newest Catalyst. I have also down clocked it because it has issue if I leave it default.

It may not the 32 bit driver. I don't know how to check that.

That doesn't make sense. You shouldn't have any issues at your stock clock speed unless you are having cooling issues.

When you install the newest catalyst from AMD's website (not from your distro), it asks you during the install if you want to install the 32-bit graphics libs. Consult your distro's documentation and/or forums to make sure that you have the graphics drivers installed correctly, along with the 32-bit graphics libs to go with it. You will need those to run games on POL/Wine.

I would seriously look at other things though, considering that the stock clock on your system causes issues. That is NOT normal at all, and you need to get that issue figured out before anything. I cannot stress how NOT normal that is. lol. That is your primary issue at this point. That also might be why your whole system is locking up; a busted/starting-to-die graphics card. That needs to be corrected so that it works like stock at the stock clock speed.

I run the game from playonlinux. I have never used wine before. Could you also tell me how to set the run the wine with sudo?

No. DONT run Wine or POL with sudo. Never, ever do that. lol. Seriously. Don't ever run with sudo. Also, if you don't know what sudo is or sudo does, don't use it. You should really, really ready the documentation for your Linux distro...

PlayOnLinux is a GUI for Wine. I suggest you do some reading to become more familiar with how the software works:

http://www.playonmac.com/en/manual.html

http://wiki.playonlinux.com/

http://wiki.winehq.org/PlayOnLinux

https://www.winehq.org/about/

Again, you need to figure out the issue with your graphics card first. You might have hardware that is getting ready to fry or something. That is a MAJOR issue, not normal, and likely causing more issues than you think.

Actually, I have fighting with my graphic card about 2 years... And it still working and I'm still alive, yeah!

I never figture out what is happening to it. During the process of fixing the issue I found down clock will make less issue. And thats why I'm doing so. I can use this graphic card play D3 under windows7 and win8. But I would more prefer ubuntu. or anyother linux distro. Thats why I have changed back recently.

Do you have any suggestions of fixing the issue?

I just suggested a BUNCH of stuff. Re-read my post. Also, your card is NOT working correctly if you have to downclock it. Period. You have something messed up in your Linux install or your card i messed up. If you haven't figured out why it is doing that, you have not been troubleshooting it correctly. You need to fix that. There is no excuse for a properly set up graphics card that is NOT broken to need to be under-clocked to work correctly. That is just simply not how a good card should work, and is usually a sign of poor cooling (in my experience).

So, again, you need to go back and re-read my posts, follow the advice given, read those links, and make sure that your graphics drivers are set up correctly with the 32-bit drivers (you will need to go to Ubuntu's forums or read their documentation. They write that stuff for a reason. lol.).

^^^^ That is my suggestion to fix the issue. Do that. After you have read ALL of the links that I sent and did everything I posted, report back and let us know what is happening (I typed a lot of stuff, so I really hope you are actually reading it...).

Thanks. I'll try to fix the card first.
