Just to be clear I never intended to demand anything.When I try to install VCrun 2012 or 2013 into a wineprefix via POL I get the same error that Ronin got. mrdeathjr28 on Gamers On Linux has started a private message with me to explain how he got it working. He pointed me to a torrent for The.Sims4-RELOADED. Maybe its a hack which means it might not be a great solution. I will see.

POL needs to be updated so we can install The Sims 4 and other games that use Vc run 2012 and 2013.

Attention POL devolopers: Please add the latest version of VC run as soon as wine makes it.

 Maybe it was just wording. ;)

Yeah. We will not support anything at all that has to do with bootlegs. Period. If it is a hack, and that makes it work on Linux through Wine, then the error when installing The Sims 4 is likely from Copyright Protection/DRM, which is something that would have to be worked through Wine. Though, if the it needs vcrun2012, then this may at least get you over that hurdle. We can't touch anything that is not a real, retail version of the program.

I said Please so how is that demanding? I just meant it needs to be added to your to do list for when wine finds a way to do it.

vcrun2012 would be awesome to have as a PlayOnLinux package.
I'm more than happy to wait as long as it takes for developers to get it working.

Like I said, it was just in the wording, and I misinterpreted it. So, it's all good.

We need testers. ;)

PlayOnLinux -> Configure -> select virtual drive -> Install Components -> vcrun2012

VCRUN2012 is not a DRM issue. The script that I posted a link to, which is in POL now (Install Components tab) extracts the DLLs from vcrun2012, puts them where needed, and sets them to native. The actual installer does not work, but it is not because of DRM (there is no DRM in the vcrun redistributables. There is no need, becasue they are free.), but because of a cache permission error.

Instead of installing vcrun2012 from an exe, try using the component installer, as it does the extraction manually, and should work. I will be putting up the vcrun2013 installer soon, but testing needs to be done on vcrun2012 to see if it even helps.

I found out that I had to restart POL before the VCrun 2012 script would show up. I guess it dosn't reset until its restated.

Yeah. Either that, or you can hit the "refresh" button in the Install menu. That should refresh the scripts.

Also, I just made some updates to this script (literally right before I posted this), so if you are having crashes when running the vcrun2012 installer, you will want to restart POL and try it again. I just tested it, and it is working appropriately, but as you stated, it took a POL restart to update the script list.

I decided to try The Sims 4 again just in case vcrun 2012 will work. I am pretty sure that I remember it requiers vcrun2013. I had deleted the wineprefix, so I had to reinstall it. It was easier to patch wine since I still have a copy of the q5network.py patch to enable Origin to download. The game installer is at 24%. I will post the results. I expect it will error out since it probably needs vcrun2013 but maybe I will get lucky and vcrun2012 will work.

Word. Just keep us updated. I am going to attempt to post the vcrun2013 script tomorrow, so I will post here once I get it uploaded. Again, I cannot say for certain that it will work, but it should, considering the essential DLLs that it installs are still present and set to native. We shall see. ;)

@booman - I tried drakensang again, and it still does the same thing, so I don't know what to do aboot that particular app. Tis being quite grumpy, sir. lol.
