Perhaps we will find an answere at this site https://github.com/wine-compholio/wine-staging

Maybe if we add the latest wine-compholio for 1.7.34 to POL, we might be able to get this running.

I already looked at that. wine-compholio is a mixture of a LOT of patches. We would need to know which exact patch fixes this issue, so that we can produce a POL build for it and make it available for scripting/usage. If someone wants to hop onto their forums or email list or IRC and find out which patch or patches fix this, we can build it out and test it. If they have it (which they supposedly do), then we just need to narrow it down, because they have a LOT of patches.

I already tried searching their patches but I haven't figured it out yet. I probably just need to think of the right key word to search on.

I would actually ask them directly via their email list or IRC or something. Searching through source, I didn't even really see anything that stood out to me. I am sure those that are familiar with the merges to their code will be happy to at least put you on the right track.

Check this out https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=31204
"
You must use cabextract to extract vc2012 redist into wine/drive_c/windows/system32 to get the game work (else crash when loading character map).
vc2012 redist is not installable at this time.
"
Maybe this is the way? Is cabextract a POL command?

The script that I wrote for POL (install components -> vcrun2013 (and vcrun2012) both do exactly that.

Cabextract is a Linux terminal app, but we have POL uses it to do exactly that. vcrun2012 and 2013 are NOT installable from the exe, BUT the workaround is the solution above, which we have implemented now. But if a program tries to install vcrun2012 or 2013, it will try from the exe, which will not work.

Thanks for working on this guys! I haven't heard anyone else trying to figure out vcrun2012/2013 so its nice when someone gives us special attention.

For sure. We still need a wine fix though, if we want to go further. I need to learn c/c++. Lol.

Yea I keep telling my self I should learn C++ so I can be more helpful in open source projects like POL and wine. Besides I have a few ideas for projects of my own. I'll have to do self tauhght tho as I couldn't handle going to a school -Physical or online - due to some disabilities I have.

Well, POL is Python and BASH, so that is easy to get into. C/C++ is what you would want to know for Wine. That is my next mission. lol

I just did a search and found this sight: http://cplus.about.com/od/introductiontoprogramming/a/cppbeginners.htm .
I think I'll start in the shallow end of the pool and slowly head for the deep end. The shallow end being Object oriented and C 1970's and the deep end being C++ abot 1983 to present. Aparntly C++ has a steep learning curve altho there is a move on to make the syntax easyier for begginers.

hello:
I arrived here after trying booman's guide for drakensang online. Its from 2014.-
http://www.gamersonlinux.com/forum/threads/drakensang-online-guide.898/
Now I tried to install drakensang online on ubuntu 16.04. But even if i do it exactly as it says im getting many errors that i dont understand.
I understand what playonlinux is but im not an expert about running windows games on ubuntu. Long time ago there was script (?) I think thats the way its called.. that let you install the game and play it like right out of the box (i remember it was here somewhere). I understand maybe that "thing" dont work anymore because of updates in the games but I can see you were trying to make it work again (Drakensang).
For example i getting a Nebula 3 Application error that says: Backbuffer format not compatible with D2458 depth buffer. No idea what that mean. If somebody with the know how can help me please... I dont know what to do or where to ask. thanks in advance for your time to read my messages - Lorena

is that "Nebula 3 Application" error for Drakensang?
I've played it this last week a few times and everything runs fine.
What version of PlayOnLinux are you using?
What version of Wine are you using?
I do suggest creating a new thread since this one is a few years old

Hello Booman:
Thanks for your quick replay.
Yes the error WAS from Drakensang but it was because of video drivers and new ubuntu 16.04 LTS.
No more AMD Graphic Accelerator fglrx (propietary) in that new ubuntu.
That means no AMD Catalyst Control Center too
So i decided to go back to my 14.04 LTS with the AMD Drivers from additional drivers tab.
Now, THANKS TO YOUR AWESOMENESS, Im finally able to play my beloved game!!!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!!
Your guide works perfectly even if its from 2014.- (you should point somewhere that it was tested recently, I mean 2016)
PS: Now my new installation challenge is Runes of Magic (maybe you can help me out with that one) - The scrip I found here is very very old and doesnt work
https://www.playonlinux.com/en/app-940-Runes_Of_Magic.html
I get an error and have to cancel the intallation but still have a folder called Runes of Magic inside Playonlinux's virtual drives - Honestly dont know what to do with that folder now.8should i delete it?)
My Computer have Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (x86-64) - Wine version 1.8 - POL version 4.2.10
Cinnamon version 2.8.6 - Linux Kernel 4.2.0-36 generic - Memory 3.2 GiB (has 2 memory cards 2 GiB each one - dont know why it keeps saying i have less ram - is a mistery to me )
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo CU E4600 @ 2.40 Ghz x 2
Graphic Card Advanced Micro Devices Inc AMD/ATI Park (Mobility Radeon HD 5430)
prog-if 00 (VGA Controller) - I think i didnt forget anything - Hope you can help me with your magic brain!
Cheers from Buenos Aires - Argentina - Lorena

Drakensang is one of my beloved MMO's as well. I play it with my wife and two daughters. We LOVE IT!
I have not updated the guide in a few years, but did add to try with Wine 1.8 or 1.8-staging
I have never tested Runes of Magic. Have you searched WineHQ's? Runes of Magic
You may want to do some reading there first. Sometimes gamers post good tips and hacks.
