- Name of the distribution: Neverwinter V20140625a (installer version anyway, can't load so I'm not sure, it's the latest downloaded 10/25/14) - Name of the software and its version POL 4.2.2 - Your desktop Zorin 9 (Ubuntu 14.04) - Errors from the software. And if possible, tell when and/or where it happens. No errors, just stuck at Updating screen - Your computer configuration. Acer laptop, T4500 Intel dual-core 2.0ghz, 2gigram.
Internet, both wired and wireless 4.8-5.8g avg. through Network Manager
I loaded pol, and installed Neverwinter/Arch Launcher no problem (that I saw), when I open POL, it has the Icon for the Arch Launcher, I click it, and the square grey box pops up, and says updating, however it sits there for 10-15 minutes before I give up. It says, "Updating", then changes to "Download 0% of whatever KB", and that's where it stops, and it will go no farther, so it's trying to run, but it's like it can't get internet connection. Usually I boot back into Windows and play, I don't have that much time usually, so I can't wait forever to see if it's going to actually do something, and still have time to run a whole mission.
I noticed, on another thread in this forum, people were talking about using Firefox/Chrome rather than IE. Did I misread that, or is that possible? Would it help any if I went that direction. I have used POL, before with mixed results, of course some of the programs were known to work correctly, and others either had no previous reviews, or were known not to work. Any direction someone could give would be appreciated, I hate having to reboot into windows just to play this for 30 minutes to an hour, then reboot back into Linux for everything else. If I didn't give enough information to start with, just let me know, I'm sure I left something out that you need.

I'm aware of the launching/updating problems with Neverwinter as well.
I'm going to do some testing tonight and tomorrow to see what is going on.
I found that you don't need IE8, firefox or chrome for Arc to work. Arch should pretty much work with corefonts, d3dx9 and tahoma packages.
I'm sure the made some kind of update that broke Wine. This happens alot with clients like Uplay, Origin, Steam and Arc.

If you are using Steam, don't forget to disable the in-game overlay. That causes games to crash all the time.
I tested Neverwinter about a month ago and it worked fine. I backed up the virtual drive, so I could test it again.

That is one thing that I would fix. You need to install the 32-bit version of libasound on your Linux system. Also:
err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L "WLDAP32.dll" : libldap_r-2.4.so.2: cannot open shared object file : No such file or directory
Looks like you need to install the 32-bit version of libldap into your Linux system, as well.

The screenshot is not the best indicator of an error. Debug output is preferred. Though, in this case, it looks like Arc instaler is wanting to call some d3d call that is not supported. I have not actually tried to install it in a while, so I have to imagine their installer has changed. I don't think it has to do with screen size, per se, but more how Wine is trying to handle the calls to d3d. You should probably check winehq.org and see if there are are any fixes, and if not, open a bug report with WineHQ to see if they can develop a fix. I have not had a chance to test, but worst case, I will test a bit on Monday and see what I come up with.

It's ok. Neverwinter and STO both use Arc, so if Arc is broken as their means of download, then that is all that we can do.
Though, if I remember correctly, STO is available through Steam (for free, of course), so that you don't have to use the Arc client. Try this:
Create a new virtual drive with the newest 32-bit version of Wine
Install Steam through:
PlayOnLinux -> configure -> select new virtual drive -> Install Components tab -> Steam
Then:
PlayOnLinux -> configure -> select virtual drive -> General tab -> Make a new shortcut...
and select the Steam executable.
Then, simply try to install STO via Steam (it is available for sure: http://store.steampowered.com/app/9900/ )
I think that would be easier than trying to get the Arc client working. Especially with Steam working fairly well through Wine as a content-delivery system. :)
(Sorry if my instructions are not completely correct. I am just going from thought, not actually testing.)

I know it is an older topic, but I just installed Neverwinter and play STO for a long time now.
Arc is not needed to install NWO or STO. You can finde the old setup.exe files on the web (the old download from perfect world is still available if you have the direct link)
NWO: http://download.perfectworld.com/nw/neverwinter_setup.exe
STO: http://download.perfectworld.com/sto/star_trek_setup.exe
I have ARC, STO and NWO running in different wineprefix each one with different settings.
added the games manually to the arc client and can start them via ARC or without

Yeah, I kinda figured. I downloaded Neverwinter through Arc, then just make a shortcut directly to the launcher. Now I update and launch Neverwinter from there instead of Arc

I already wrote a script to get STO from Steam. That works fine without any issues. Although, if I could skip it, I will. I will take a look at this and write a script for NWO, as well as ammend the script for STO to make use of this. Thanks for that information.

Yeah. I have been playing a lot of STO lately since I scripted that Steam-based installer. lol. Tis quite fun. I heart space games. I did notice that the graphics are similar. I shouldn't have any issues getting this set up. I am super busy this week, but I am going to try and squeeze it in. :)
