I was wondering if there was a convenient way to install Play On Linux on SteamOS. I'm working on setting up a full entertainment system style setup and I'd like to be able to play some of the Windows games that I get addicted to (darn you Skyrim)

I've managed to get PlayOnLinux installed on SteamOS using some guides from the Steam forums. However, when trying to use the Skyrim installer I cannot for the life of me get it to work.

I've gotten Steam and everything installed and downloaded, but when I go to run Skyrim I have 2 issues: 1, my graphics card is not detected correctly, mine is a GTX 780 and it detecks a 8800 GTS or something similar and 2, my sound card is not detected and I can't seem to get Wine to detect it or work properly with it.

Edit: There is already a Skyrim installer. Please use as possible it and report a bug ; unofficial guides debugs are not supported here.
(Moreover, your guide does not help at all to solve the problem here.)

You may have to post in the SteamOS forums about the video/sound issues.

Check out this guide, maybe there are some helpful tips:  Skyrim

Sounds like PlayOnLinux is working properly.  How did you get it to install?

@booman, really it is harmful for the project when you advice users to follow your guides and not using the script when there is a problem in one script. As a result, the script is not updated / fixed and thousands of users won't be able to install it.

Please file a bug if Skyrim script has a problem.

@Tinou I don't know if it's a bug with the script, wine or just a compatibility issue with SteamOS.

I installed Wine and PlayOnLinux by added the Wheezy Repo. Pinning it to -10 and installing with sudo apt-get install -t wheezy playonlinux. Wine didn't want to work using the same command for wine, but it worked when I temporarily pinned the SteamOS repo above 1000 (to force it to use the SteamOS packages).

I then ran PlayOnLinux normally, ran the script to install skyrim and proceded to login to Steam and download Skyrim.

I can't get any sound out of the Wine configuration menu under the audio tab and selecting test sspeakers. When attempting to launch Skyrim it says I have a 8800 GT graphics card and that it doesn't detect a graphics card.

Any help would be amazing.

Try to find if any other process (pulseaudio?) is using your soundcard

I know pulseaudio is installed but when I ran killall pulseaudio, while trying to figure out what was causing it and knowing pulseaudio causes trouble, it said that it wasn't running at all.
