Online Games Crashing? OSX?

So, the most common issue that I see with Mac users that are trying to play online games through POM is that they are missing Samba, which has winbindd. Samba, AFAIK, was removed from OSX a couple of versions ago, and you need to install it via MacPorts here:

http://www.macports.org/ports.php?by=name&substr=samba

If you are playing WoT (which is easily the one that I see with this error the most) or ANY other online game, and it crashes, make sure that you have samba installed.

If you are curious what the error looks like, it looks like this:

err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution.

It will be in your debug logs or terminal output. PLEASE check this first, BEFORE posting in the forums or reporting bugs. This will save time for everyone. :)

Thanks,

WoT script nows install samba on OSX, but I'm pretty sure that the problem does not come from samba

If I am not mistaken, winbind missing on OSX is what has always caused that issue. I always have recommended the samba packages from MacPorts or one of those, as it should install winbind with it. What other things could cause that error?

This error is indeed caused by winbind missing. I updated the script consequently, so no need to instal macports. However, I'm not sure it is the reason for the crash

Sweet. That should help a lot.

It seems to be that is the one thing that stuck out in pretty much all of them (in the case that nothing else obvious was found) when reported. I know it is a killer for online games for sure. It may not be the real reason, but with WoT and WoWP, at least it is a start. haha. Those games get grumpy between updates, specifically with OSX for some reason. At least getting winbind in there will knock that out so we do not see it as much. Less err, the better. haha.
