Slow PoL downloads

Server problems?

I've tried downloading a new Wine package today and my download was incredibly slow, in the dozens of KB/s. Trying to download manually through the site still produces the same effect. My connection seems to be fine for anything else. Is there an issue with the servers?

I don't have this problem personally.

Where are you located?

I live in China and I have this problem too, wine downloading is very slow and always fail at 3.x~5.x MB, nevr resume since 2015 march. This problem cause playonlinux uselesss. Better if playonlinux can use system provided wine (again).

POL already has the option to use System Wine; it never went away. However, system Wine defeats the purpose of using POL to begin with (in 95% of situations). I live in the US, and I am just as far away from them as China is from them, and it works fine for me. We do experience slow download times, but as for the distance from server to client, I am just as far, and it works fine, albeit slow every now and then.

Developement version should fix this problem.

(Just to keep everyone informed, the optimisation has been reverted for the moment because some technical problems need to be fixed first)

Ok, the optimization is back in the development version.

So if you find that Wine packages downloads are slow where you are, or want to participate in making sure the optimization don't break anything for you, please head to the download page and use the "git clone" instructions to get the development version and test it, we'd like to hear from you :)

Just remember that it won't overwrite any package-installed version of PlayOnLinux you may already have; To run the development version you have to run the main script "playonlinux" off the git checkout directory. You can check at any time what version you're running in the "Help" menu.

Thank you develop team!

I am using the 4.2.7dev from git now.

I get rid of my wireless router and connect to dsl modem directly, it seems this method removed the download stopped problem (may be only one time for now).

Download speed in devel version improved significantly, but if the download is stopped , it can not RESUME. Wine, gecko, mono, if any one of these three package downloading is stopped or interrupted, i have to clean the unfinished part file and re-download from the beginning.

Another small problem: after all package is downloaded an verfied correct. the icon in "Installed Wine Versions " is still grey.

No version handles download resuming, so did you experience any kind of regression?

About grey color, that's how the Wine version manager now denotes the versions that are not currently in use by any virtual drive, and can be safely removed; That feature has been added in 4.2.6 (and was not in the changelog grr). Would have it been more intuitive if the versions in use had a different color than normal instead?

No big problem or regression found now.

On rare occasion, not only found in this devel-version but also previous stable versions: the "this script is not valid" warning popup mulitple times. On my observation, the first window is right as intended, other windows are blank, i guess these are mistaken triggered by originial pol sub funcions/scripts?

I think the icon color is not an urgent issue right now, if i can see packages are downloaded correctly in the colsole or log.
