Hi,

First a little pre-warning: i'm not a particularly savvy user, so my questions might be a bit dumb

I want to play a few games, but I only have a Linux machine (and then a laptop running horrible windows 8 but am looking to play on the other one)

i can't be bothered to buy a PS4 or XBox given hwo little time i have to play, and likewise for a gaming PC.

So thought i would try out playing on the linux machine, and in my searches i fell over this page, but the instructions all seemed a bit technical for me, and it wasn't very clear exactly how to install games.

My question1 is: my linux machine doesn't have a CD/DVD drive, if i instead buy the game online and then download it, can it still be installed and played w playonlinux?

My question2 is: how do i do this more specifically?

My question3 is: will this also work for older games? (my machine isn't too powerful so thought i'd just go for some older titles). for example, GTA3, Red alert 3 or something like that.

You have to check what each install script supports, there's no general answer.

Dude go to Gamers On Linux

Lots of step by step guides on how to install a game and configure it in PlayOnLinux.
Its what the site is all about.  There are a lot downloadable games as well... Like from GOG.com or MMO's
