Launching the Civilization V SDK Worldbuilder Hangs

Hello all! Just joined this forum, seems like a nice community.

My problem is that I'm trying to use the map editor that comes with the Civilization V SDK. I get the launcher-thingy for the SDK to open, but when I click on the WorldBuilder the splash screen opens and then hangs. I've tried reinstalling it, to no effect. I manually installed the Visual Studio 2010 from the website. I manually reinstalled the .Net 4 stuff from the configuration options. I've also done quite a bit of googling, and I can't find anything.
EDIT: Thought I should point out that it's using one core at full, and has been for a while.
System info:
   Xubuntu 14.04 (with compiz)
   Intel i7 Ivy Bridge @ 3.4 GHz
nVidia GTX 760 4GB (running with the latest proprietary drivers from the default repos)
Latest Play On Linux, which is running Wine 1.5.25 .
(let me know if you need any more info)
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Post up the debug logs (check the stickies) so that we can see what actually happened when it was running.

If I am not mistaken, Civ V uses/installs a version of Wine that comes with Mono, so .NET should not be needed (in a perfect world), but one thing to note is that mixing mono and .NET installs will probably make things worse. You can try to uninstall wine-mono to try just pure .NET, but I do not know if it will work.

You can try this here:

http://wiki.winehq.org/Mono

Read the first part of that page, and it will say the same, but also shows how to uninstall wine-mono. You will need to run this command by opening up a shell for the virtual drive, like so:

PlayOnLinux -> configure -> select the Civ V virtual drive -> Wine tab -> Wine Uninstaller -> Select Wine Mono, and click Remove

Then, install .NET 4 into the virtual drive using the Install Components tab.

Let us see if that works.

It turns out wine-mono wasn't installed. I tried manually reinstalling .NET 4, but it didn't do anything.
Here's the debug log:

It then repeated "number - table" for quite a while.

For Steam you now need at least Wine 1.7.8
Wine 1.7.18 also seems to fix some issue with game overlay

I just switched it to Wine 1.7.18, and the Windows version to 7 and now the SDK doesn't even open its launcher. Steam and CiV itself appear to run normally. I could try a new wineprefix and reinstall everything with Wine 1.7.18 and 7 from the beginning. I'll post how that goes.

I started fresh, and now the first time setup of the SDK hangs while saying "Installing: Microsoft .NET Framework (step 1 of 1)". After a while a command prompt opens which says "The .NET Runtime Optimization Service is started and paused." over and over again. Any ideas?
