Hi. I hope people can help me out here as I could spend weeks trying to fix this and failing. I've been at it for 12 hours now and I gotta take a break.

I would love to (re)play Morrowind on my little Atom n455 netbook. I'm a teacher. I am on the move constantly. Portability and battery life are everything. Anyway, I have confirmed that the game *should* run!  People are runing this in Wine on atom n455's!

But with me? Bombs out constantly with the error:

Render creation error: Unknown stencil format.

I have tried winetricks, tried the POL scripts, installed updates (updating via POL does not work with Morrowind, so far – the updates do not detect the original morrowind install.)
I have installed without POL, with POL, with different renderings of wine...
I have used built in dxdiag, Devenum and quartz after reading other posts on the same problem.

I have set emulated desktop, all permutations of graphics and still the same error. But Neverwinter nights installs and runs a charm so I do not believe it is a driver issue. Besides, the GMA drivers are well supported in the Linux kernal.

Machine: MSI u135, 1GM RAM, Intel Atom n455, intergrated GMA 3150 chipset – weeny but should handle Morrowind. Not Oblivion obviously!
OS: Mint Linux 16 – latest rendering. Mate with KDE installed over (after the KDE install resolutely failed to work – though I doubt that changes anything.

One last note: When I try and change any settings in POL for disaply Wine crashes. Any settings.
Also there is no Direct3D entry in the registry at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WDirect3Dine\

But NWN runs fine.
????!!
That's as far as my skill goes. Anyone any ideas? OK. I gotta go eat something...
Thanks in advance.

There is a step-by-step Guide on installing Morrowind as a manual installation:  Morrowind Guide

Of course its on a desktop with a dedicated video card.
Since Neverwinternights runs, Morrowind should as well, but you never know...

Those errors might be video driver errors.  Drivers can really handicap games but I'm not convinced since NWN runs.
