Feature request: Add an Option which allow a Wine HQ compatible Loging.

eg.

Rename the Original .wine folder create a new and clean one and start the selectet Setup with the Debug option WineHQ admins wish. After ending pack save the logfile. Serve me optional the used and now ziped .wine directory. And replace it with the Original one.

Renaming .wine folder is not needed, you can set the WINEPREFIX variable, which is what we do.

This is not the problem for them. The real problem is that POL people ask support for scripts, and scripts are not supported by WineHQ

Exactly. WineHQ is specifically for Wine itself, not scripts that utilize Wine. Although, they are a little, well, strict. I have put stuff up there that specifically said how to do it manually, with vanilla wine, but then I mentioned that there is a script on POL, then they deleted my post.

My problem with that, is merely because there are SO many patches and fixes that Alexander & Co. do not accept into the main branch, and because of that, some of these programs NEVER end up getting a solution, except to do it ALL manually with winetricks, and usually they tell you to do it from the terminal. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but for people that want to just use a piece of software that Vanilla Wine will never fully support, I think that they should be a little more open to suggestions of POL. Especially if they are not accepting those fixes for that given application into the master branch. If they have no intention of supporting them in the main branch, I don't think it is evil to suggest POL or Crossover.

Just my opinion, though. :)

I totally agree!

In the long run, we all just want our games and programs to run.  Some of us don't even care how many steps it takes, as long as it runs, we are happy!

But in WineHQs, there are a lot of reports about games not running, and yet they do.  So gamers have to look elsewhere to get their games running.  I think this is why PlayOnLinux gets a lot of attention.  We do everything we can to get a game running and let everyone know!

It is basically what is done with manual installation module. But winehq won't hear about it ;-)

same problem here.  I would love to report more games that work, specially when WineHQ tests are "bronze" and "garbage" but I don't even bother anymore.

I still get notifications of delete comments too.

I mean, I DO get it, though; they want Wine to be transparent eventually. In theory, you click an exe, and Wine takes care of the rest. Again, in theory. In practice, it is not as nice, hence wineprefixes and scripts and all that jazz. I just think that they could be a little less stringint.

You said it perfectly!

I wish it was as easy as Windows and just have one version of Wine, one prefix and install all libraries & games.

I do not want every game in one Prefix. One Prefix per game is the Best Idea ever. In my Library i could find any Games I ever played. even they are realy old. If I wish to play one of this, I only have to import a copy to local it and it works.  Never an instalation again. Only one Time and it do for ever. I do never agin need an CD/DVD. And if the Kid in me break out and try to play with the installation, addon or hacks i could easy replace a Prefix with the original again.

Friends of mine sometimes wish they could do the same.

That is true. I don't mind having different prefixes, but like I said, in theory, Wine should be able to handle everything exactly like Windows does. But, as long as that is still a theory, I embrace the multi-prefix aspect. :)

The main reason I don't like a wine prefix for every game is because of redundant use of hard drive space.

These days its not a big deal, but some people have limited space on their hard drives cause they are dual-booting, storing movies and installing the same libraries and Windows files over and over and over is exhausting.

I don't mind doing it because this allows my PC games to run in Linux, but I'm more patient and organized than most  people.

On my windows machines everything works in one Windows installation.  Wish it could be that way one day in Wine.  Even if its only direct x 9 games.

Don't forget that on Windows, it takes years to uninstall a program and it's never done completely. (Stuff generally remain in registry)

Prefixes avoid this problem.

i would like to have a prefix system on Windows :-p

Good point, its transparent to users until there is a problem.  Then you have to defrag and use something like ccleaner.

I'll just end up reinstalling Windows once a year or so.  Depends on how often I use it devil

As I said before, the log is already createed by PlayOnLinux for each wineprefix. It is not the problem
