Ok after a few days and allot of searching I was able to get ARC running in POL using 2.13-staging with wine configured as Windows 10. I started out install IE8 and following the guides I found in these forums, then I updated the wine version and OS.

Here are the components that are installed:

LunaTheme
corefonts
gdiplus
msls31
msxml3
riched20
DisableCrashDialog
d3dx10
d3dx11
d3dcompiler_43
physx
VideoDriver
tahoma
tahoma2
vbrun6
vcrun2005
vcrun2008
vcrun2010
vcrun2012
vcrun2013

I have installed Neverwinter and I was able to get the Neverwinter client to launch, went through the patching, then entered the game lobby. I have music, but my video looks very, very bad. Once I'm in the game the video is still the same. I have an Nvida 960GTX with 2GB DDR5.

I have tried adjusting the setting in the game and nothing helps the look of the graphics. Any assistance would be helpful.

I haven't tested Neverwinter in a long long time.  Last I heard they were upgrading both Neverwinter and Star Trek Online to Direct X 10/11.

So there is a chance you are getting graphical artifacts due to lack of Direct X 10/11 support in Wine.

Here are the recenly updated specifications (March 2017)

  • OS: Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) / Windows 7 / Windows 8 / Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.8Ghz (or equivalent AMD CPU)
  • Memory: 2GB RAM
  • Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8000 / ATI/AMD Radeon HD 2000 / Intel G965M Express / Intel HD Graphics 2000 or better (Must support Direct3D Hardware Feature Level 10 or higher)
  • Sound: DirectX 10 Compatible Soundcard
  • DirectX: Version 11.0
  • Hard Disk Drive: 23GB Free Disk Space
  • Network: Broadband Internet Connection Required

There's a Star Trek Online script for Phoenicis PlayOnLinux 5 already (see https://github.com/PhoenicisOrg/Scripts/tree/master/Applications/Games/Star%20Trek%20Online). Would be interesting to see a Neverwinter script there as well.

Oh nice!  But I wonder if Wine is fully compatible with Direct X 10/11 enough to run both games?

I don't know (didn't try the script myself). However, I assume that the one who has submitted it has also tested it.

My husband, our friend, and myself have been testing wine versions on serveral computers with all three Cryptic games.

Champions Online has some network errors and issues but these may not be wine related at all. Otherwise it has no issue running in 2.0 or higher.  No winetricks or scripts were used. It will run without ARC or Steam.

Star Trek Online also lags a lot, crashes on start and has invisible portions of clothing. Beyond that it will not get beyond the 3D character selection screen and has a network failure during the loading screen.

Neverwinter suffers from lags (even in Windows 10 tests) also crashes and see through clothing or body parts. It too will crash after pressing the button from the 3D character selection.

The only tweak used on both STO and NW was the registry edit;  Direct3D -- MaxVersionGL -- 30002

Also winecfg was set to reflect Windows 7.

We plan more testing this weekend.

Awesome!  Thank you for testing and taking the time to see what works and what doesn't

Are you planning to use overrides like d3dx10 & d3dx11?

Do you test with the staging versions of Wine?

From wine 2.12-staging, there is no need to set MaxVersionGL anymore (only if you need OpenGL 4) -> https://dev.wine-staging.com/patches/142/.

When I made the script of STO for POL5, it worked fine under wine staging 2.12 (launched in safe mode). Didn't try surface gameplay however.
