Mass Effect 3 Demo via EA Origin doesn't play

Hi Everyone,

System:
Crunchbang Waldorf 32bit
AMD proc, 4g ram
ATI 6770 HD

Trying to get the Mass Effect 3 Demo running via Origin. Now, Origin runs and it's downloaded and installed the game. PlayonLinux is set up to use 1.5.28-Origin Wine version. I haven't touched any of the other wine settings.

The game kicks off from Origin, my display's resolution changes, but then nothing happens. Everything just kinda hangs. I have to kill the process either from playon or a command line.

I'd like to try and get the demo working before I purchase the game.

Any thoughts on what I might be missing? The playonlinux debug file is pasted here:

Thanks for the help.

These errors seem so familar.
All of these wininet & ieframe errors are probably because Quartz isn't fully compatible as a brower to use Origin properly.
I've messed with Origin in the past and got it to install, but downloading/launching games was a complete pain!  I never had any success.

A few questions:
  1. Can you play other games in PlayOnLinux?
  2. Do you have the AMD proprietary drivers installed?
  3. Have you tried other versions of Wine?

1. I just installed League of Legends. I can get a game to start, but it hangs up very fast. I'm installing Diablo III right now to see if that works. (it worked previously when I had Ubuntu)

2. I'm using the fglrx drivers from the Wheezy repos.

3. Not yet. Do you recommend any in particular?

thx

Ok, let us know if you have problems with other games too.

Make sure to install the proprietary drivers for Crunbang. This is critical for games to run.
I've read a lot about AMD drivers causing random problems for many games.

You can always try newer versions of Wine on-the-fly with PlayOnLinux.

Download Wine Version:

  1. Launch PlayOnLinux
  2. Click Tools
  3. Click Manage Wine Versions
  4. Select version of Wine on the left side
  5. Click the Left Arrow in the middle to download
  6. When finished, the new version of Wine will be on the left side
  7. Close Wine Manager

I got the catalyst drivers installed and that seemed to help a few things.

I got Dead Space 3 running almost perfectly. It randomly crashes once in a while, but it's perfect. I'll play around with it otherwise.

Mass Effect 3 will at least start now. It's in a window, but the game says the servers aren't available

I installed League of Legends with the 1.5.24-Shop wine version. I can't get the game to launch at all. The client starts, I log in, but when I start a game, it just hangs.

The logs for that are here

I'm glad you got origin to run, that is promising.
I have dead space 3, so I'll be trying it in the future.
By the way, I just updated my league of legends guide last night.
