Howdy...

Has anybody installed and running Minecraft under PlayOnLinux-->Wine?

If so, how do I install and are there any issues?

Thanks!

Are you aware that minecraft got a native Linux version?

Daerandin...Minecraft jar runs fine, until I try to log in. It keeps cranking but never accepts or rejects my login. From the posts on the installation page, apparently a lot of people are having trouble getting it to work, but none report login problems. Maybe even if I get in it won't work, but I'll never know if I can't login.

Thanks!

You may want to ask on the Minecraft forums instead since this is not related to PlayOnLinux in any way.

However, provided mods will let this pass:

My first question will of course be if you have java installed, and if so then which version of java. Also, saying it is "cranking" does not give any information at all. If you run it from terminal, then what is the output you see in the terminal? Asking for help without providing any details about exactly what goes wrong makes it impossible for anyone to really help, this goes for any problems you may encounter.

If you are using open source java, then I do know some people have problems with openjdk6, so you should simply install openjdk7.

If a mod decides to lock this, which I would understand, then I could always try helping you out over PM if you don't want to try the official Minecraft forums.

Daerandin...

You're absolutely right. I'll take it to the Minecraft forum. I forgot that this started as a PoL question then went on to native Minecraft.

But replying, I do have the correct version of java installed per the Minecraft installation instructions.

Correct on lack of info. Sorry. When I launch the Minecraft jar, it goes through steps too quick to read and opens the launcher superimposed on th4 Minecraft background-textured window, which requests login or create a new account. Since I have an account, I enter my user name and password and hit login. The bar at the bottom that's like a progress bar only just indication something happening, has a short colored segment that oscillates back and forth - what I referred to as "cranking." It continues to do this with no change. I'm sure there is a way to monitor activity in a console window, but I'm not experienced enough to know it, so can't say what it might be telling me, though since it seems to be hung up on the login process, I'm not sure an activity log would help.

openjdk-7-jre installed

I'll just go to the Minecraft forums since it looks to me like a login issue.

Thanks for your help, and I apologize for getting off-scope.
