Hello,
I'm not a BSD user (not now!), but I know that wine is also compatible with BSD, so I was asking myself if there will be also a PlayOnBSD version, like PlayOnMac. Greetings |

Hi,
That has been discussed a few times, and given that the code is already OS X compatible, it's probably not too difficult. But since it's nowhere near to top of the TODO stack, if nobody kicks the ball, you can come back in 6 months and be sure nothing will have changed... Experimental FreeBSD support is planed for 4.2.3. Don't hesitate to try and to give us feedbacks |

Hi, I'm trying to run PlayOnLinux on a FreeBSD 10 machine.. I have downloaded the generic .tar.gz package I have installed bash since for this OS it's not the default shell, at the moment it's taking some time compiling "wxpython" from ports since after executing ./playonfreebsd I found it's missing... wine and python should be ok, I can't tell if it will works or not, I hope so :) |

Unluckily I wasn't able to build that port successfully... since a precompiled package doesn't exists I'm investigating the problem :( |

It worked for me. I could install wxpython with the pkg_add command |

Hi, Thanks for the feedback, if you use pkg_add you should have FreeBSD 9 or less Sorry if before I was wrong on the version, I currently run a FreeBSD 11 machine, unluckily package wxpython doesn't exists and port won't build, so I downloaded and installed manually the txz from the FreeBSD 10 release repository now I get this error that puts bash in an infinite loop when I run ./playonfreebsd Unable to access the X Display, is $DISPLAY set properly? I will try again soon on a clean 10 release box to see if the problem remains

I was using Freebsd 10. Think it was pkg command. The error here is pretty clear. DISPLAY seems not to be set |

Yes, from version 10 pkg is the new default package manager
I resolved that issue, after installing missing 7zip and gsed packages now ./playonfreebsd starts the GUI without errors, thank you!
Later I will try playonbsd better installing programs and testing features... can I continue to post on this thread for problems/feedback?
Thanks again for your help!

You can also use supported software section. But try not to put "It does not run well" everywhere since POBSD is not stable enough |

No problem for that, since it's experimental stuff I wouldn't flood anything for principle Well... first of all I renamed the directory which I extracted the .tar.gz archive to ".PlayOnBSD" under Home When I run POB in the main window toolbar I see a message saying "PlayOnBSD Website is unavailable. please check your connection" The connection I'm using is a very standard cabled ethernet with dhcp enabled which was set during first OS installation and never touched after that... not only it works for all the other programs I use on this OS but also works when I try to download and install another version of wine from "tools -> manage wine versions" "settings -> Internet" don't work and don't send error messages to the console... another problem I found is when I try to install a new program through the + button, POB remains stuck on waiting and when I try to change the software category I get this error from console: IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/davide/.PlayOnBSD//configurations/listes/1 No surprise here since "configurations/listes/" directory contains only a file named "gecko.lst" If you need more infos/logs let me know... thanks again for the help and also patience

Hi, I've tried to run 3 games without success... installation was fine, execution crashes badly... seems that wine cannot completely install certain libraries like DirectX and .net As wine version I found that works only stock version.. all others can not even start task manager nor install additional libraries.. The most important issue that I've seen is that all installation programs I've tried didn't release RAM memory at the end of their execution Anyway these problems seems more related to FreeBSDWine rather than POBSD... in TrackMania Nations for example on launch it cannot find DirectX9 Libs despite compatibility level was previously set to Windows 7 and DX runtimes manually installed from wine task manager Edited by nonnaccio |

Well that might be a cross building issue.. Do you have any terminal output? |

Yes.. here are some console outputs... for your information the same game I tried here was installed and played successfully on OpenSuse 13 using PlayOnLinux with the same wine settings and same installed components this is during creation of a new virtual drive:

This may be part of it:
/usr/home/davide/.PlayOnBSD/lib/playonlinux.lib: line 755: [: 1: unary operator expected
/usr/home/davide/.PlayOnBSD/lib/playonlinux.lib: line 756: [: 1: unary operator expected
/usr/home/davide/.PlayOnBSD/lib/playonlinux.lib: line 757: [: 1: unary operator expected
But it does look like a Wine build issue, specifically, as POL (or in your case, PlayOnBSD) is just a front-end, and wouldn't normally make wine throw an exception and traceback. Just something that I noticed, although I have very little experience with BSD, and cannot really give a good answer. Hopefully we can figure out what the cross-compatibility issues are with the build process (if that is actually the issue), and if we do, it looks like we would need a separate folder for BSD Wine builds like we have with Linux and OSX builds. At least that seems like what would be needed to me.
