Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has been able to install Mass Effect 3 using the latest PC-DVD release (purchased from EB Games 17/08/2013)?

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 using:
Playonlinux v4.0.14 (from Ubuntu repo)
Wine v1.7.0

Steps I have taken:
- I attempt to install by running the setup.exe file from Disc 1 after choosing to create a new virtual drive for a non-listed program.
- I choose v1.7.0 of Wine
- I install POL_install_d3dx11
- I get to the point where Origin just finishes installation and starts to run, but then Origin requests to update itself. I attempt to update but it then fails.
- The error I get on a pop-up from Origin is
EC:7049:12157 EC:7049:12157-CA Error: 7049:12157

I would really be grateful if someone who has had success with this game, gave me a hand!

I havn't tried Mass Effect 3 yet, but I recommend using the Origin specific Wine.
I think there is a 1.6-Origin version available in PlayOnLinux Wine Manager.
I got Origin to run in Ubuntu 12.04 and it updates just fine.
Actually today I'm going to attempt downloading Battlefield 3 from Origin.
I can post my results if you like.

I checked and the Origin Wine in PlayOnLinux is 1.5.28-Origin

That version of playonlinux is SUPER out of date. Update it on our download page.

Also, we need MUCH more info, and the debug output from the installation (as per the forum rules and stickies. REQUIRED reading), otherwise no matter what, everything is a guess.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies and apologies for not responding! I ended up with a computer malfunction and haven't been able to get back to trying it. I am still keen on getting it going.

I've spent money buying the game and haven't had any joy out of it; and also haven't got a Windows PC capable of playing it.

Once the Rigs up and running 100% I'll give it another attempt.

Thanks for your responses.

Off subject...
What are the computer issues you are having?
Hardware? Software?

It was a few issues...
1) I swapped a GTX 260 for a HD5870 and the swap didn't go smoothly with the driver change but it is all ok now.
2) I threw in a SATAII controller card to increase a RAID5 array from 4 disks to 6 disks; and the PC wouldn't make it to GRUB at the very least. Also all sorted now as well.
3) And lastly, I tried throwing in the latest Catalyst 13.8 driver and failed in the attempt which resulted in the PC not functioning for a while. It is all sorted now as well.  Reverted to the official latest ubuntu repo fglrx instead of the latest and greatest from the AMD website.

So, now that everything is working I would like to give it another crack! But I thought I would try it out in baby steps first.
So instead of trying to get Mass Effect 3 running straight away as my first game on POL and Wine; I would try instead to install an existing game that is already built in with POL (a POL listed game), Dead Space.

Dead Space installed fine and encountered no problems in the installation process, but when I tried to run it, it failed.
So what I'll do I'll post that experience on a new thread first and hopefully people here can help me/educate me on how to get it all working. Then using the experience and knowledge gained from that, I'll re-attempt to install Mass Effect 3.

So I'll close/pause this thread for now.

Wow, 6 disk RAID 5? thats awesome!
I'm glad you got the HD5870 running in it, but unfortunately you will probably need those AMD proprietary drivers to run most modern 3D games.
I havn't heard much good feedback when it comes to AMD drivers, but it sounds like you know what you are doing.
I'll check you other post...
