Probably reverse engineering... not sure how its legal, but obviously Microsoft hasn't done anything about it.
Maybe they will when they see how many gamers are moving to Linux.

I bet there are some ex-Microsoft employees working on Wine.

Either way you're drifting away from the thread original topic.
If you don't stop ranting I will just lock it.

Petch, have you messed with launching different browsers in a virtual drive?
The main concern is that we are forced to use IE8, which is slow, insecure and just old.
Is there a way we can use a different browser when launching some of these browser dependent games in a virtual drive?

Short answer is no, never had any reason to use a browser inside Wine, beside testing that the install scripts more or less work.

Dang. Ok, well guess I'll have some trial-n-error to do. Besides these Windows only browser dependent games, there is no reason to use browsers in Wine. Its just not neccessary.
Sadly, the Origin client requires ieframe too. I wish some of these developers would get away from IE

Any idea whether this PlayOnLinux command - POL_Download "$GAME_URL/$SETUP_FILE" "" - can be modified to use the VD's browser instead of the system browser?

It uses neither, it uses Python's urllib.
