Sorry, was offline for a bit. I had no idea that you had other games working... especially Skyrim. There is a way to backup your games from PlayOnLinux and then restore them. Let me know if you want to try it. What version of PlayOnLinux have you installed?

PlayOnLinux version 4.2.1 I just updated my system but IE8 POL script still fails to copy dlls or whatever is preventing the copying from working.

Really? I"ve never had that problem. Not exactly sure why Ubuntu is having a problem in 64-bit. Maybe IE8 just isn't meant for 64-bit at all.
One thing you can do is go to: /home/username/.PlayOnLinux/resources
Delete: - IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU
- WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU
- WindowsXP-KB975337-x86-ENU
This way it can download them all fresh again.

Still get copy errors in log file for IE8 after trying the above.

Deleting resources should be a waste of time, given the files there should all be checked using their MD5 hash.

64 bit Ubuntu has always had problems with 32 bit as the devs don't seem to want to make sure all the need 32 bit libs and such are included. I figured a 64 bit OS would make better use of my hardware. I didn't know running 32 bit on Ubuntu 64 bit would be so difficult. I wish the devs would spend more time on enabling 64 bit Ubuntu to run 32 bit stuff. I got this game to patch manually using an old STO setup program on my hard drive but when I click 'engage' it dosn't appear to do anything. If I move my mouse cursor over the launcher window, the window dissapears. Looking at the process list shows nothing concerning the game so I think the game died. The debug shows nothing beyond a sucessful patch.

Crap, well... thats not what us gamers want to hear. When I originally chose Mint for gaming I had to decide on 64-bit or 32-bit... Knowing that most if not all games are only 32-bit compatible I decided to use 32-bit. I have now sucsessfully installed and ran 87 games... and counting. Star Trek Online is a Free game correct? maybe I'll try it over the weekend and see what I can figure out. Then I'll make a Guide on how to install it.

Well, 32bit support in Debian-based distros has actually improved since the switch to multiarch: now the 32bit libraries used on 64bit systems to support 32bit apps are the same ones used by the 32bit systems, instead everything-bundled-together, 64bit systems specific ia32-libs kind of monstrosity; So now at least you can get all the available libraries, and up-to-date versions even, not 6 months old libs, that are actually broken because the remaining of the system (the X server for example, as it happened) uses incompatible protocols... That said, packages are still installed on a demand basis, and since for just about every other need using only 64bit binaries is what you want, having to get some 32bit apps running is often the first occasion to require many 32bit libraries. It's hard not to miss any in dependencies. PlayOnLinux current strategy is to depend on Wine, so that, indirectly, all the libraries Wine uses are also installed. Be sure system-wide Wine is 32bit though. Edited by petch

Cool, I'll put it on my to do list. How large is the download? My internet is kinda slow, so I wanted to gauge how long it will take to download

If you ever get the setup to work - that seems to be quit small-, then the patcher will download a bit over 7G. I have an old setup file that seems to work its 2.4 MiB. I also have a copy of the new ArcInstall_v20130723a.exe, its 8.2 Mib.

I got my vanilla wine version of STO working. Now I know its PlayOnLinux so I was thinking mabey POL somehow is corrupted even though many other games work. Could someone please tell me how to backup my games and restore them later then I will tell apt-get to purge POL and then reinstall and restore POL. Maybe then POL will work correctly.

All the state is in each user's directory, in ~/.PlayOnLinux/ (playonlinux does not have the rights to modify its own installation since it doesn't run as root), so purging/reinstalling will achieve nothing. Parts of ~/.PlayOnLinux/ may get corrupted, but I don't remember anything serious happened to me in two years: it's rather resilient, unless you get totally broken and elusive behavior (as sometimes seen while doing user support) it's usually easy to fix just the part that's broken: - resources should always be validated using a hash, as I already said, so it should not be an issue; - if you suspect a version of Wine is wrongly installed, uninstall then reinstall it; - resources taken from server (lists, icons) should be ok after clicking on the Refresh button (if refreshing terminates correctly); - the PlayOnLinux Vault extensions allows you to backup/restore virtual drives, but if you suspect one is corrupted, you'd better save the important files (game saves :D) and reinstall from scratch; - (do I miss something?) So the question is, what do you think could be corrupted in your setup?

Booman, thought it might be. His post is towards the end of page one of this thread. I have no idea what it might be. I suppose it could be some 32 bit thing that no one has thought of yet. Maybe a wine dll override settting?
