Hey guys, absolute novice here to Linux. I'm working on picking up some tips and tricks to getting everything to work.

I have just installed PoL, and I basically have no clue where to go from there. I have found the list of software I can install from the program itself, however I know that the original Everquest is not one of them.

Is it possible/how would I go about installing it? I know basically next to nothing on coding.

Also are there additional steps I should take to properly set up PoL?

I apologize for the silly questions. I have read the documentation, and I honestly am just getting lost in the coding and steps and everything.

Someone will probably have to write a script for it, or you can do a manual installation:

PlayOnLinux -> Install -> Install non-listed program

Although, you might need to check http://appdb.winehq.org for more details on installing that particular program.

If you got it started with no errors, then you have it set up correctly. Again, a manual install sounds like what you need, but you need to know what that program requires to run (like Visual C++ runtime, .NET, etc). That only can be found by trying a manual installation and looking at its errors. :)

Can you post up your computer specs? Architecture? graphics card make and model? etc etc etc.. We can probably answer some of your questions and help fix future problems with some troubleshooting right now and some information on your setup.

Pretty old system. It's been around a day or two, just trying to squeeze the best out of it. :P

So I'm working on a manual install and the first problem I'm running into is I need to be able to install DirectX, which every time I even try and open in PoL, I immediately get an error to check my windows folder (lolol)

So I guess my first step is looking into how to successfully install Directx.

Alright so I finally found a super simple tut on installing Directx for my system

Afterwards I ran my EQ launcher in PoL and it still took me through the DirectX setup during installation which failed, but it turned out since I already had in installed, the rest of the EQ installation went beautifully and everything seems to be working so far.

I can't really play until tonight when I have unlimited bandwidth (ridiculous limitations of Satellite internet). But when I do, I will keep updated as to how smoothly everything runs.

We do not use winetricks in POL, nor do we support it. Everything that winetricks does, POL already does.

If you would have looked in:

PlayOnLinux -> Configure -> select programs virtual drive -> Install Components tab

you would have seen directx, and MANY other packages already set up.

Again, in the future, do not use winetricks with POL, because if you have issues, we wont help, because its not supported to mix winetricks and POL virtual drives. lol. Use the Install Components tab in the Configure window for that stuff.

Alright, I understand. I didn't realize it was a problem, and now I see where I could have done it that way. My bad for not knowing.
