Thank you in advance for your time, this is my first time using Linux as a desktop operating system, and I am not very experienced (hopefully I will be soon).

I have tried to install Steam onto PlayOnLinux and when I go to launch Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or DotA2 my steam friend icon (bottom right) will turn green like I am starting up a game, it will stay green for a moment and then it will turn blue as if I had never tried to launch it.

I am running Debian (not sure which version, I installed from the net install) with an Nvidia 560 Ti and an Intel 2500k. Any other information that you need I will do my best to find for you.

EDIT:
I opened PlayOnLinux in a terminal and loaded up steam. When I click play on Counter-Strike I get the following error:

Failed to create D3D9!
System (VMaterialSystem080) failed during stage CONNECTION

Any help? I just want somewhere to start, maybe some reading on this I can do to help gather some more pertinent information.

Gotta be patient. Lol. Sometimes we can't answer right away.

You may have to start it with optimus. That error means that it cannot use d3d because of no hardware acceleration. Can you run playonlinux from the terminal and post the output?

Everything worked perfectly up until I tried to launch a game.

There is a way to run this with optimus, which from what I understand, tells the program to use the Nvidia card, and not the onboard video chipset.

I dont have much experience with Steam outside of native games.

Says I have it installed, why is it telling me those packages can be removed, I don't feel like I should trust that at all.

Dont remove them. They are needed. I just ignore that and it goes away after a while. I believe it judges that on the last time its been accessed, and if its been a while, it says that they arent being used. Again, dont remove them. lol

Installed Debian packages can either be marked as "installed manually" (you explicitly asked for them), or just installed because they're a direct or indirect dependency of one of the formers.
If a "manually installed" package is removed for whatever reason (it conflicted with an upgrade for example), the packaging system may find many non manually installed packages that don't look required anymore. Feel free to use critical thinking, though, maybe what you need is to manually reinstall the package that was removed, or mark the packages you know you need as manually installed (apt-get install on an already installed package will do that). Because as long as you do neither apt-get will keep suggesting to autoremove them (it's most probably been that way on your box for a while, trying to reinstall the already installed bumblebee is definitely not the cause of this).

All right, that helps a bit, but I still can't get bumblebee working, I did a little bit of reading and I'm going to try to reinstall it maybe.

Follow this:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee

That should get it set up correctly for you.

Bumblebee will enable you to use optirun, but I think you need to get Primus for Bumblebee, as well. That should be covered in the links I sent. Try them again and let us know if they work. :)

try

sudo service bumblebeed start

And see if it will let you run it then. Its just saying that Bumblebee is not running.

You also should be running that first command as sudo, if I am not mistaken. Thats a system service, and cannot be started by users in the "users" group. sudo should make that command work.

If you want to see what services are running, you can always check:

ps -A

for a list of all running procs.
