I was wondering about this but is using Wine or Playonlinux better for playing games and to use Windows programs? Like if I played games like Doom 3, The Sims 2, 3, WoW, StarCraft 2 will Playonlinux be better or Wine? Also will this software run Windows programs also?

PlayOnLinux actually does use Wine, but is implemented in a different way. I will say, though, that I have had far better success using PoL than using just regular wine. Just remember that with out the Wine Project, POL wouldnt work. lol.

And yes, it will run regular software, not just games, too. I have posted up scripts on some popular music software, and there are plenty of other scripts written for a myriad of other software titles. The games list just happens to be the longest.

You could also google search things like "wine vs playonlinux" and see what other people think, as well. Or just install it and run it. You can have both installed on the same system. They will not interfere with eachother.

Oh I didn't know you can have both installed I though if you did since both have Wine in them it would conflict Windows programs when trying to open a Windows program. But if both are Wine then maybe they are about the same then.

Will, they are not both "in wine". Wine is, well, Wine. PlayOnLinux utilizes Wines technology to make different "bottles" or virtual drives, that can be separated from the others.

Just install Wine from your software manager and then never touch it again.
Then install PlayOnLinux and you can manage different versions of Wine through it.
You never have to touch the initial Wine ever again...

I have had a LOT of success with PlayOnLinux and games. Check the list in my signature.
I update the list regularly.

Since PlayOnLinux needs Wine to work, I check wineHQ.com regularly for research and help.
