strange bugs, how to troubleshoot?

I tried the original Lego: Star Wars over the weekend and it worked but has some very strange bugs.  Of course I researched on WineHQ first and didn't find very many results besides running great and DRM problems.

Got it running pretty good singleplayer and with a joystick.
Used d3dx9 and Wine 1.4.1

Here are my symptoms:
  1. Audio - background music looping
  2. Cutscenes - audio cuts out
  3. Video settings - locks up game
  4. Controller Settings - locks up game
  5. cooperative mode - 2nd player does not have control
Pretty strange stuff... 
When you are in the main menu, the background music plays about 3 seconds and then starts over again and again and again.
The cutscene problem isn't a big deal and is probably encoding problem, but the locking up is a problem because I can't set the resolution or controllers.  The main menu sometimes works but other times locks up completely.
Then if you play co-op, for some reason player one is in control of both players at the same time!  Its actually kinda funny... both players jump, attack and switch to other character in synchronous harmony.

Anyways, let me know if you can think of any ways to troubleshoot these symptoms.
I have tried different versions of Wine (new and old) but still have the same issues.
I also tried installing the DirectX from the CD.
Also tried other d3dx versions.
Tried NET Framework 3.0 and vcrun2005 & 2006, but its hard to know what the game needs for these items to work.
I'll post my debug results later...

Usually when stuff like this happens, I try different versions of Wine ( I start moving up and down versions), and that usually makes a big difference when troubleshooting. Hopefully a different versions of Wine will help

Just remember that after wine 1.5.5 (I think), it automatically installs Wine-Mono, so you would need to uninstall Wine-Mono using the Wine Uninstaller in POL if you plan on using the real .NET, and not mono.

Ok, I'll keep trying different Wine versions. So far each version has the same symptoms.
Yeah I think its 1.5.5 too
You have said several times to no install both Mono and NET Framework on the same prefix, but now what do we do if Wine 1.5.5 is installed and Mono isn't working?

You can uninstall it by:

playonlinux -> configure -> click your virtual drive -> wine tab-> wine uninstaller

It will be listed in there, if its installed. Every version of Wine after 1.5.something installs it by default, if I am not mistaken. Using the method described, you can uninstall wine-mono if needed, and install .NET.
