Hello. New to Linux, new to WINE and brand new to PlayOnLinux.
Tried installing Outlook 2003 via my Office 2003 Pro suite installation disc and WINETricks. Outlook installs but will not allow me to configure a POP account - it gives me a blank box where the settings should be in the wizard - I'm also seeing some blank tabs in the tools/settings menu.
Found out via a YouTube video just last night that PlayOnLinux is for more than games. It was already installed, so I brought it up - impressive array of settings and much easier to understand and get around in than the other WINE tools I've been using. Perhaps the name should be changed to RunOnLinux ;-).
Anyway, my first attempt last night to install Outlook with PlayOnLinux failed with the same problems. I activated the debug log - 2 things stood out. First, something about my machine being 64 bit (I'm sure that my version of Office is 32 bit); second, messages about depreciated fonts.
I'm going to try and install again tonight - I believe that PlayOnLinux has a utility that allows you to configure a 32 bit environment - that's where I'll start. I also saw a Fonts package - thought I'd install that, too. I saw further, on bringing up the WINE manager, that there were no installed versions of WINE listed - not sure how or why, I have other Windows apps running - so I installed the latest version. My machine is AMD64 bit, which seems to make a difference in which WINE versions to install.
Is there any particular version of WINE that works best with Office 2003? I didn't see any that said it was for that version of Office in particular. Also, any other tips you veterans can give me would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
