New game on PlayOnLinux: Far Cry 2
Sunday 16 November 2008 at 20:05
Good evening everyone,
Let's put on your rangers and dress lightly for it's hot, really hot in Far Cry 2's African bush.
You have to investigate on a arm dealer called The Jackal. You will be working for his clients, the APR and UFLL, the only way for you to get closer to this arm dealer.
You can now install this game thanks to PlayOnLinux
For more details, check out PlayOnLinux's forum here

TeamSpeak looking for GNU/Linux testers
Monday 10 November 2008 at 15:15
The developers of the famous (but proprietary) gamer-targeted voice chat software are currently looking for alpha testers to test their TeamSpeak 3's client version. They're not looking for just any kind of tester but GNU/Linux and Mac OS users!
The third major version of TeamSpeak is in development since 2005. Back in June of this year, they released TeamSpeak 3's SDK and they now focus on versions for Microsoft Windows' alternatives.
So TeamSpeak's developers published a request for "qualified, experienced Linux and Mac users" for their closed alpha test on October, 31, 2008. It's a closed test because you must meet some requirements and it's selective (the conditions and the selection process are explained on the testing application form's page).
If you'd like to see a better TeamSpeak 3 GNU/Linux client than version 2, feel free to apply.
But if you'd rather contribute to a free software project, Mumble should suit you better. It also has low latency, is gamer-targeted and cross-platform.

Update of the Steam: Counter Strike Source script
Saturday 1 November 2008 at 17:11
Hello Everyone,
I am pleased to announce the new version of the Steam script : Counter Strike Source
This new version is here thanks to the same duo as for the previous ones : Obi1-46 and Cendre
This new version brings the following novelties:
-rectification of a linguistic error
- Correction of a bug in the choice to prefer graphic quality
-Wine 0.9.60 by default. It seems better performances according to our tests.
-An image on the left and on top has been added for the installer
-Two different icons for two different launchers have been added
-the Frame per Second are limited to 50 to avoid laptops to overheat. This does not hinder game experience.
-You will be asked to launch Counter Strike Source before the end of the installation to make up for a bug of the late creation of the game's file.
-Copy of the Microsoft's font during installation to avoid bugs due to servers' name that some people experienced
-Correction of a bug in the configuration script
-Correction of another bug : the game purged the configuration file making some set-ups temporary
everyone, have a good game,

Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex is here
Saturday 1 November 2008 at 16:17
The stable version of Ubuntu 8.10 is available for download since October 30th 2008. This version is maintained until April 2010
For those who've had no problems with Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron I strongly advise not to upgrade. The X.org file has been modified and so your mouse and keyboard set-ups will be lost. You'll have to convert your set-ups so that they work under Intrepid. Other small problems may appear depending on your configurations.
For those of you diehards, the download links :
Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
Xubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10
The changes :
The Desktop
-GNOME 2.24 desktop environment (Ubuntu, Unbuntu Educational Add-on)
-Nautilus file manager has tab support and Eject icons for removable drives .
-File Roller archive manager now supports ALZ, RZIP, CAB, TAR.7Z file types also
-The encrypted private directory is coming as a result of the encryptfs-utils being moved into the Ubuntu Main repository so that it can now be easily installed and setup by end-user.
-The User Switcher applet features a Guest Session with restricted privileges
Internet and communication:
-Firefox version 3.0.3
-Network Manager 0.7 provides new functionalities such as:
* system's global parameters (no need to sign in a user session to start the internet connection)
* 3G connexions managements (GSM/CDMA)
* management of multiple active devices at once
* PPP and PPPOE connexions management
* management of devices with static IP configurations
multimedia
-integration of a Totem Plugin to watch media from the BBC
-Latest GIMP, version 2.6 and so loads of novelties
network
-Samba 3.2 now manages secure transfers in the network and IPv6 with better integration to latest Microsoft® clients and servers and clustered file server support
windows
-new Wubi version that works under windows systems containing accented letters
inside
-Linux Kernel 2.6.27
-X.org 7.4
- "last successful boot" recovery entry. On each successful boot, Intrepid will retain a copy of your running kernel and make it available from the boot loader as a "Last successful boot" option. This makes it possible for old kernel packages to be safely auto-removed by the package manager, instead of being kept indefinitely.
-DKMS allowing kernel drivers to be automatically rebuilt when new kernels are released. This makes it possible for kernel package updates to be made available immediately without waiting for rebuilds of driver packages, and without third-party driver packages becoming out of date when installing these kernel updates.
- PAM Authentication Framework
Installation
If you're under Ubuntu 8.04LTS Hardy Heron
- go to "Applications> Accessories> Terminal3
- enter the following command line
sudo update-manager -d
-you will be asked for your password, enter it.
-The update manager will execute. All you have to do is click on "Install updates" and wait for the download and installation of this new version
more details here
If you're not under Ubuntu or on an earlier version than 8.04
